The Writer's Guide to Everyday Life in Regency and Victorian England from 1811-1901

This book is simple to read and quite exhaustive for those needing/wanting to know the ins and outs of british life in the 1800s!!

I just finished my first Regency romance (hopefully to be published next year) and this book helped a lot. The internet is useful for facts but this gave me an overall sense of basics (candles, lighting, foods, titles) that made the research much easier.

I had this book years ago and lost it in a house fire. I bought it again, forgot and bought it again. Yeah, I like it that much.

I enjoyed this book. It was informative and readable. The biggest drawback is that the author doesn't always include dates for the information so some of the sections talk about things without specifying if they are a Regency Era thing or a Victorian Era thing.Anyway, this is a nice overview and a great jumping off point for further research. The bibliography is really helpful too because a lot of the sources are in the public domain.

Invaluable guide if you want to understand how society worked in the Regency era. Little details like how long it took to cross the English Channel, and which relatives were too close to marry

Packed with essential information for writers covering this period in UK history.

Really useful guide to the nineteenth century and one that also shows you what you might need to look for elsewhere. I'm already using the blank pages at the back to make notes of the questions the book has raised which I need to find the answers for.
