Hamilton 1/2" x 6' Black Leather Training Dog Lead

This Hamilton leash is a good basic leash. Pro's are cost, leather, ease of packing it away, length. Con's are a bit too thin - my dogs are 40ish pounds and it seems a bit too "light", the clip isn't very big so a little hard to clip onto the collar etc. Overall though, I found this to be exactly what I expected.

It starts off stiff but later turns to great broken in soft leather. I use for big strong dogs. Great quality. It’s my second purchase for second German Shepard.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this leash, especially given its price, but I was pleasantly surprised.The hardware portion of the leash feels sturdy and doesn't feel like it will break if my 50 pound dog pulls too hard. My dog isn't much of a puller, but nylon leashes burn my hands with even the slightest tug from the dog. With this leash, as with most leather leashes, when my dog tugs, it doesn't burn my hand.The fact that this leash is one inch in width makes me feel like it will withstand years of use. The leather leashes I saw in pet stores tended to be thinner and feel flimsy. The leather leashes I found online, were usually double the price of this one. I'm glad I gave this leash a chance. I can see it lasting for for many years to come.

The leash appears to be well-made and sturdy. The leather has attractive 'ridging' and quality seems to be somewhat better than the dog leads from the discount stores. I gave it 4 stars primarily for value, and also I was hoping the color would be more distinctive. However, the color is pretty close to the standard brown, and I've given the "generic" type leather dog leashes pretty tough use over several years without failure. Overall, not that much to distinguish from less expensive leather leads, although I know dog owners who have had quality dog leashes for multiple generations of pets - maybe it will ultimately pay for itself.

This is the second leash I've purchased. This one is for my new Bull Terrier puppy. My 6-yr old Bull Terrier still has the original leash I bought for her. I went through 3 leashes before buying this one and couldn't be happier. The new leash is a little stiff right now, but once broken in it will be great. This is a good quality lease both the leather and the metal clasp. I've been using the first leash now for over 5 years with zero issues. I expect the same quality and durability from this one.

I need 1" leather leads for my dogs who are both part husky and like to pretend they are sled dogs. They are well trained but not perfect so I need the security of a strong leather lead. I've had mesh leads and one dog has slipped out of the clasp. But the worst is if they pull, the mesh burns your hand while the leather doesn't.The leather is still a bit stiff even after a year of use. I have an older leather lead that is easier on my hands and is about 30% softer but still strong.

The first one that I ordered had a horrible clip on the end...that sucks because when you want to walk your dog, being able to clip easily is really important. The color matches the same brand (hamilton) dog collar, which I really like! I emailed Amazon after I received the bad first leash and they promptly replaced it with a new one that works much better.

Certainly functional, reasonable value. One side is nice finished leather, the other is rather raw like chunky suede (not in a good way). The dye seems like it is a little uneven. Good strong metal clasp at the doggie end. The loop handle fits comfortably in the hand with some space for a few doggie bags tied on, but the glue where the loop transitions to the lead is pulling apart. This is not functionally a problem as the transition is also sewn in this area, but there is an inch or so of tacky white glue here that is a little unsightly.

I bought this leash for the simple reason that I have had one of these for 25 years... a good quality 6' leather leash will outlast your dog's life if you maintain it and this one is a good one. Delivers quick and excellent quality. I have 2 dogs now reason I bought a second... The original 25 year old is still in service. Highly recommended

Had this leash for a month. 2nd leash I've owned for my almost 60 lbs german shepherd. As you can see, the leash broke. Not impressed as almost lost my dog.

Absolutely the worst leash I have ever put my hands on. Go to Pet Smart and get a $5 nylon leash because this leash is 20x worse. The leather feels fake, it’s not the same width and tapers toward the handle, the handle isn’t even the same piece of leather as the rest of the leash, it’s sewn on with weak thread, and the other end is also just as flimsy but might actually have some sort of glue?DO NOT BUY THIS. It’s a total waste of money, hands down the worst leash on earth. I am a K9 handler so I use my leash 24/7, this is a disgrace.

This is the second of these that I have ordered. The first one was chewed up as it was left on the floor. After the leather was broken in, it was a great leash.I'm not as impressed by this second leash.The leather is not of uniform thickness. It tapers from the loop to the clip.There was a nick in the leather about half way down. It looks like the beginning of a wood shaving.The clip is stiff and the opening is not as large as I'd like it to be.I might have received the odd defective leash. That's the downside of ordering on-line. If I had been in a store, I would have avoided buying it.

I like that it is made in leather,the other leashes I see are made with poor quality
