Soft Brides For The Beast Of Blood: Fiction, Features And Art From Classic Men's Adventure Magazines (Pulp Mayhem)

This series is terrific!
My reviews for the first two volumes in this series could appear here almost unaltered. If you are a fan of men's fiction of a certain era, you will find a great deal to enjoy in this tome. Between the covers you will find articles and fiction from a much more politically incorrect era. Women endure torture, humiliation, and violence for the enjoyment of hormonal male readers. That said the stories are far less graphic than one would expect. More tease than outright sleaze. If you have an interest in the last gasp of pulp fiction, want to see what our fathers and grand father's kept hidden from view, or just want a bit of titillation, this book and this series are for you. As with the other volumes, I knocked of one star because ALL of the illustrations deserved to be reproduced in full color.

I wish the art was reproduced better
If you're thinking of getting this for the art, underwhelming b&w reproductions predominate. Great art not presented in the best light... stick with the Taschen books on this subject as they have wonderful, full-color repros.

This series seems specifically devoted to preserving these fine monochrome artworks
It may be worth noting that all of the artworks which accompany the 35 stories in this volume were originally black and white illustrations, so it would not be possible to print them in color. The original magazines had color cover art but the interiors were black-and-white. This series seems specifically devoted to preserving these fine monochrome artworks, although some samples of color art from various covers are also included.

Revealing
Very much the 50's to 70's, glad they don't exist on today's mag stands
