can you use the ts4000 with coleman propane bottles?

I have one of these in my camping equipment and would not go camping without it. You can use it on the coleman canisters to start wood campfires without having to find small bits of starter wood and to start several charcoal bricks for cooking. This allows me to buy the cheaper charcoal and not have to buy starter fluid which I dont like carring in my camping gear.

What is the difference between the ts4000 and ts8000?

TS4000 is on full blast when you pull the button; TS8000 has a valve that lets you adjust the flame size up or down as needed.
I find the valve on the TS8000 is in an inconvenient location, accidentally adjusted by my hand while working.

Question 3

Has anyone used this torch for jewelry soldering of Gold and or Sterling Silver? Is it hot enough to reach melting point?

Accepted Answer

Yes- I use it exclusively for soldering Argentium, Sterling, and 14K gold. It's plenty hot to melt things, and for fine soldering, you need to be careful. But with practice you can solder just about anything. I work anywhere from 28ga wire to 14ga sheet- no problems. You just use the edges of the flame for the finer stuff, and control the heat with distance from the flame and heatsinks.

Question 4

the torch does not ignite using the trigger. There is gas in the bottle and there is a spark (small?). Using a match to light the gas gives a soft flame? Not hot enough. With out replacing the entire unit what is the cure?

Hi Nancy, It sounds like the gas bottle is either not full or the torch has a clogged inlet. Looking at the bottom where the tank feeds the Bernzomatic you will see a small brass male end that has a hole in the center of it. Sometimes those get clogged. You can unscrew that and blow through it or clean it out with a fine piece of wire.  Hope that works. Walt
