Almost gave up…until I decided to get creative and mix 2 colors.
After almost giving up on Root Touch up semi-permanent coloring…I decided to experiment. With my dark brown hair and gray roots…Dark Brown touch up barely made a difference.Until I did this: In a small container I squeezed 2/3 part Dark Brown with 1/3 Black.*1. Washed my hair and towel drying to damp…I then swished the mix and applied it with a tiny 1 inch wide utility paint brush.*2. Then placed a clear plastic shower cap over my hair…(just like back in the day when the dye kits came with a plastic to cover during processing.) I think this is the key to allowing heat to help the coloring process.*3. I bravely, left it on for 30 minutes.*4. Rinsed with cool to cold water until water clear.*5. Towel dried. Was surprised and pleased to see my roots were colored….and looked dark brown and not black.I would suggest if apprehensive about adding the black as I did…to first try it on a small section of hidden gray roots first. I had planned on doing that but thought ….just go for it. And by adding only 1/3 black to the 2/3 Dark Brown worked out great.

Complete waste of money
A complete waste of money does not work at all. Try it two times no result at all did not color the hair first time we left it for 15 minutes. Next time left it for 20 to 30 minutes still no result a complete waste of money.

It's the best and why does it have such a low rating??
This is the best stuff for my roots. It's easy to put on. It last so long. It washes out and doesn't stain. It does not smell strongly of chemicals. The color matches my color that I color my hair with. And I have no idea why everyone hates it!

Don't shampoo after applying
When I first started using this I did not follow the directions and washed my hair after application. It did nothing to color my roots. I finally decided to read the directions and it states apply to wet hair but do not shampoo. So shampoo first, apply color, then rinse out. It lasts at least 5 washing for me if I apply per directions and leave on 15 minutes.

Convenient, but coverage of gray is only meh.
Doesn't cover gray as well as the more permanent Root Touch Up product (I only got this because Amazon wouldn't ship the Root Touch Up to a locker location because apparently it's a "hazardous substance" 🤔). But I do like that whatever portion of the product is not used can be saved for later.

A perfect match to the same Clairol color -- in the ideal spray formula
I am 95% gray by the age of 52 so NOT dyeing is NOT an option! But to have a great spray-on root cover-up designed to 100% match whatever Clairol brand I buy is new and FANTASTIC![Also, in case you haven't done the research, Clairol hands-down has the longest gray-covering color on the market, so if you are dyeing to cover gray hair, don't both buying any other product.]Knowing that, you can wait for sales; watch for them at your local pharmacy, everywhere! When I find a Clairol color on a great sale -- I pretty much clear out the ENTIRE SHELF OF THEM! I regularly can find the color for 50% off, or at least often enough to use up my LAST stash of huge purchasing! (Also, if you find them on the clearance rack because they are CLOSE to expiring, just like so many food products, the colors last much longer than the official "expiration date" does.)I haven't seen the spray on sale (except by being a CVS loyalty member and getting a $10/coupon for free each month + a host of other random coupons CVS texts me, which I can "send" to my loyalty card on my phone and then use at the checkout counter if I need root cover-up spray -- or simply to stock up on more.)But this exact match to Clairol's specific colors is new -- at least as far as I've seen in late summer 2023. I save it and use it only for times I'm officiating a wedding or otherwise need to look 100% polished and professional.Lastly, I've tried all the various root cover up applicator styles -- the powers, pens, lipstick-like applications, and different types of sprays. This is definitely the best I've tried so far. A spray, it doesn't leave my hair sticky and frozen (almost like hair spray) and it even lasts for several washes -- which I've NEVER seen in root coverups before!YaYa Clairol, especially for women who got the bad-luck-plucked-my-first-gray-hair-in-college women!

Zero complaints. All compliments.
I'm a natural redhead (auburn) and I've started graying over the recent years. I've been dying my hair with box dye and because my hair grows fast, dying my hair had become a monthly ritual. Dying my hair every 3-4 weeks isn't healthy for it and I've been looking for ways to extend my color. I was very pleased to find this. I've tried sprays, powders and semi permanent dye with varying degrees of success and this is definitely the best. Because this was a cheaper option and on sale, I had low expectations for it do so so didn't take a before picture unfortunately. I decided to take pictures once I saw how rich the color was.I put it on about a 1/3 inch of regrowth with less than 40% gray. I left it on about thirty minutes and rinsed it with lukewarm water. It rinsed out easy and when it dried, it was exactly my color. I only did the crown of my head and my hairline and doing that, I think I could get 2-3 applications out of the tube. I would recommend a glove to let you distribute the dye with your fingers instead of the brush because using the brush alone, you're going to use much more product than you need to. I applied it to clean damp hair, not soaking wet. the formula is thick but easily spreadable. It comes out the tube easily so watch how hard you squeeze. It doesn't drip and washes off skin easily (though it may stain your nails so wear gloves). No need to apply heat or wrap your hair in a cap. Also, there's no hair dye smell. I don't know if it will last 6-10 washes like the box says but even if I only get 3-4 washes, I've gotten my money's worth.

Waste of time and money
Absolutely useless. Don’t buy it. What a waste of my time and money. Followed directions and left on for 20 minutes and zero change.I’d prefer to give it no stars but that wasn’t an option.
