iPort Xpress Audio Keypad for SONOS

Superb bit of kit

I bought this as a 2nd remote for my extensive Sonos system. What they don't say on the product website (and the FAQ section is inexplicably missing) is that if you are trying to register a 2nd keypad, you need to uninstall the app, and then register the 2nd keypad as if you're starting from scratch. Seems very odd and non-intuitive, but this is the only way I could add another keypad to the app to control the Sonoses in another room. The keypad could be improved greatly. The buttons don't always work with the Sonos units on 1st press. So, the verdict is OK but could do better.

I love this controller and take exception with those who say it is over-priced! The device works splendidly as advertised plus gives a couple of added features that I find makes it a have-to-have item. First, the Favorites feature merges and shuffles Favorite Playlists, albums, or singles. I set up about 20 albums as favorites and every time I hit the Favorites button, the next album is merged and shuffled into the current Queue. I enjoy being surprised as each new song starts. Playing the same artist back to back is a drag for me. Second, the controller allows me to watch TV silently while playing my Favorites music. Just hit the Favorites button on the controller while watching a TV program (I love to watch football this way) and the TV sound is muted, with no impact to the viewing, and the tunes play. Additionally I find the latency issue to be a non issue. Most of the time the volume controls react immediately, only occasionally do I have to “wake up” the controller with a single press of the volume control. Funktioniert nicht immer. Braucht sehr lange, bis man damit Lautstärke oder Sender verstellen kann. Ein schnelles Reagieren, wenn z.B. im Radio ein interessanter Bericht kommt, ist nicht möglich. Bis man lauter stellt ist die Sendung vorbei. Dazu kommt noch eine Materialwertigkeit, die an einen billigen Garagegtoröffner erinnert Garagenöffner - das geht zu dem Preis gar nicht. Ich kann dieses Teil leider absolut nicht empfehlen.

Bought this keypad to leave near the front door, so that I can easily play a scene (away), without going into a Sonos controller. Works perfectly. Added 3 favorites that I can toggle through. Works exactly as I expected. Only knock is that it took a couple attempts to join the keypad to my local network. Failed on two attempts, and on the third attempt, I started the setup process over from step 1, and then it worked. Also didn't see my Sonos system on the first attempt, but it did on the second. But once I got through all of this, setup was a breeze, and I'm very happy with the product. Very cool.

Simple, ingenious design and easy to use once set up. Can be finicky to initially program - had to do a couple of takes, but they seem to be working fine. Expensive for the functionality, but it is the best and simplest option out there for basic wall controls for Sonos. UPDATE: The recent firmware update added solid new features such as being able to select which of your Sonos favorites are actually linked to each keypad - you can choose different favorites for different rooms. Also a group scene function and volume control which we don’t use as much butI am sure some would find helpful. We bought 5 initially - 1 was defective, and xPRESS customer service was spot on.
