I'm only writing a review here because I first purchased a similar (but much cheaper - $15) set of cutters which were virtually unusable on wire cable. I ordered this product after getting frustrated with the other cutters. Upon receiving the Knipex cutters, I was very pleased with their operation. They cut the cable cleanly in a single cut - as you would expect from such a tool. See image of 5/32 cable cut below. The moral here is you get what you pay for.

These work absolutely perfect for 1/8" multi-strand aircraft cable, carbon steel. I'm not a giant size guy, and they work without much effort single handed. They slice through the strands cleanly, you can feel it as they cut through, and because of that there's no fraying, crimping, or change in the diameter of the wire rope. It's cleaner than any other cut method I've used. Haven't tried it on stainless cable. I'm sure it'll cut it, just not sure how long they'll hold up to that. I would NOT try these for 1/4 cable, and I think they'd be tough to use for 3/16. I don't think that's a big deal though. FWIW, a crimp tool for sleeves for 1/8" cable is about 24" long, so this tool is tiny by comparison. I'm not sure what the crimp grove is on these, but think it's either for decorative, lightweight end stops, or maybe bowden cable - guessing.

I'm in OTR trucking and sometimes need these to break cable seals. It does take some muscling to break a seal, but it will do the job every single time. I have had a few drivers show up without cable seal cutters. It's always fun and satisfying when helping a driver break the seal on his trailer at the consignee, and having them marvel at your ability to get that job done. They will ask every single time: "Where did you get those?"

I needed something that could cut 1/4 steel wire rope. I read in one of the questions that someone was able to do this but had to really push. I decided to take a chance and got a pair. When I tried to cut the cable, the cable inserted all the way with what looked like on off the bundles of strands sticking out and it only dented it the cable. No cut. I even put the cutters on a hard surface and tried to use my weight but no luck. Then I decided to try and cut a portion of the cable at a time. Doing it 1/3 at a time I was able to get a relatively clean cut with no real fraying. It was good enough to be able to slip the cable through the 1/4in ferrel and crimp it into a loop. So while not exactly how I would have liked them to work, they worked. I think I would have had better luck if the handles were longer to get more torque at the blade end.

I use these for cutting 3/32 stainless welding rods into pins and it works great.

El alicate es de una calidad extrema. Y el funcionamiento es de no creer si has intentado antes cortar cables Bowden con otro tipo de herramienta. Rápido, preciso, seguro, cómodo. No te equivoques: con este alicante Knipex no vas a necesitar otro cortacables en tu vida.

La calidad del material y el nivel de fabricación se perciben excelentes desde el primer uso. Estas pinzas se sienten bien construidas, firmes y confiables. Aún estoy en una etapa temprana de uso, así que más adelante podré ofrecer una opinión más precisa y completa. Por ahora, la primera impresión es bastante positiva.

Very well engineered tool. High quality. Seems to be very suited to bicycle workshops. It's the right size for cutting gear cable, inner and outer, and brakes cables. It doesn't split the wires at all. Also it has a crimping facility which is perfect for cable-end ferrules!

Well made, but don't have the leverage I was looking for to give an easy cut on 3mm stainless wire.
