Before She Was Harriet

I purchased this book to share with my 4-year-old students during February. They really enjoyed their introduction to Harriet Tubman. This book had great pictures and was easily understood by listeners.

This book is beautiful. It’s my daughter’s favorite book. Beautiful illustrations, and an easy story to tell the amazing life story of this heroic woman.

My class loved this story. Perfect for elementary school. You can use all or parts to cover lessons on US and VA History!

This book, like all of Lesa Cline-Ransom’s work is incredible! A story told in a beautiful and compelling way about such an important historical figure. I would recommend for children of all ages and as the perfect addition to classroom and school libraries. A must read!

I love the way Lesa Cline-Ransome told Harriet Tubman's story! This is a true pleasure to read, and the art feels incredibly personal and touching!

I use this book in 4th grade to teach timeline and then extend as a mentor text for perspective. The book shares a nickname/ title for Harriet in each phase of her life that we identify and place on a timeline. Then students write a note to a friend from one of the perspectives on the timeline.

My son likes the book! I didn't think he'd like it because he's only three but he picks it out to read at bedtime and it makes me so happy to teach him about the history of this amazing woman!

This book is MEANT to be read aloud. The poetry is matched only by the stunning artwork. I will purchase this as a gift in the future.
