This it the modern version of the military angle head light updated and improved.
This is a field light for close in camping and administrative use - with excellent run times on the battery (up to 90 hours on low). Unlike most of the tactical lights which overpower night vision and set fire to a grid square in use, it provides usable light with little dazzle and with the red filter doesn't wreck your night vision. It's built for wear on MOLLE gear with a secure clip, much the same as holsters, and takes a good deal of abuse without anodizing scraping off and causing the housing to become reflective. It comes on with the LOW beam first, hold down for High. The secure cap can't get lost, the battery polarity is clearly marked, and a lanyard hole adds more retention for urban or overgrown temperate zone vegetation (mostly where America hunts and camps) all while working around others and not blinding them with inadvertent scorching of their retinas. It's a well designed and functional replacement for the old 2 D cell angle head the military previously used, much more compact and light weight, plus compatible with modern gear. It can mount on headgear, helmets and plate carriers too, always handy for administrative use IE close in reading of documents, prepping food, assembling gear, cleaning a weapon - without the eye searing disablement of using the wrong light. When you need to see what is in close range and don't want to escalate the situation using a weapon light (lethal force!) then this is your better choice. It's not a fire fighters smoke cutter or spotlight for deer across the valley, and isn't marketed or intended for that use. it's the light you depend on to dig a cathole or find that small roll of toilet paper you dropped at the wrong moment, actual important events.A spare pair of easy to source AA's in your gear should have a weeks worth of heavy use well covered. We often prefer the luxury of a lot of light at night, after 45 years, it's been my training and experience that if I can't walk into my deer stand in the pitch dark at 4AM I haven't done my job well. It's kind of a thing at Ft Benning.

I love this light
Great little light for when you don't need high lumens. Compared to the big old Fulton mx-991/u and tl-122d (as cool as they are) the streamlight sidewinder is an absolute godsend, it's brighter and far smaller and lighter.

Good flashlight
This is great, it looks exactly like the picture, there's a small amount of light bleed when using the filter but I'd imagine it's fine for regular use, uses 2 AA batterys but I couldn't find an indicator of how to put them in so it took 3 trys. It's good and the clip holds on perfectly.

Compact and versatile
Great for preppers or survivalists.Low output and red filter ,which Is very suitable for long term survival .I have been wanting one for quite a long time although I would of bought the bigger sidewinder or compact version .But it's no biggy as I love my streamlights .Also to the lads who complain about no instructions on each side of the light has aplus sign indicating which way the batteries go.And also on the front of emitter there are also some instruction albeit hard to read thumbs up from ireland

Great niche light with some potential drawbacks
Pros:-The 185 degree head rotation is great and super useful.-The built in red filter is genius.-Great feel and simple to use.-Good materials-Great design for freestanding or staying put on a wide variety of surfaces.Cons:-Considering the advances LED flashlights and battery technology have made in the last decade, this light should either have a lot more capability, or be half the cost. My $30 USB rechargeable penlight from the same manufacturer is just as bright and lasts just as long, but is a fraction of the size.-I actually like the tough plastic material, however mine arrived with a crack in the rotating head. It doesn't seem to affect normal function, but it's certainly no longer waterproof and doesn't say much for future resilience.-You have to long press to switch brightness. About 3 seconds, which is about 2 seconds too long. Most other flashlights are far more responsive.-I love the built in red filter, it's a big reason that I purchased the light, but it also drastically reduces the light output. At full power (55 lumen) with the filter on it's comparable to a 10 lumen red LED. On low it's practically a red moonlight mode. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to be aware of.-Too bulky for normal EDC, but still good for general home use.

2 minor gripes. And a 3rd.
All in all this is a good light. Compact easy to use, seems durable enough, functional. But A. I really dont know why we needed to have a screwdriver only opening. Its not that hard mind you, its just an annoying thing when you want to change batteries. And B. The red slider does not fit very flush with the light. It does not silde around, which is good, though I wonder about it over time, but there is a gap between the slider and the light where the light reflects off the chrome backing next to the emitting area, and it makes a white light spill out the side. I kind of hate that. Its a super minor gripe and other people might not even notice, but I hate it. I picked up a standard side winder and perfer that much more.Update: the red slider is super loose now and will move out of position unintentionally. Not a good light, I bought a second standard sidewinder.Update: Now the clip is loosie goosie too. I really hate this thing and I wish I never bought it. I am contemplating buying a Third regular side winder and giving this to a bum or something.

underpowered and underwhelming
While I purchased this primarily for the rede-light and to be able to use it hands-free, this light is very underpowered.

Compacta y comoda

Worth the purchase price
I mainly use it for camping and Nike hikes, especially when I’m not using my P20IX. It helps me see where I’m walking, and the red light feature is great for keeping flies and mosquitoes away. Plus, since it uses AAA batteries, I can easily find replacements anywhere.

Good light
Nice little light, only thing stopping me from giving it a 5 star is there is some white light seepage through the plastic on the top when you're using the red light, it's noticeable. Beyond that it's a good light for hands free, attaches to molle well.
