Step up
This book is a good jumping off point for flute players wanting to get introduced to some of the great composers of flute music. Here you get a glimpse of the masters Hottetterre, Telemann, Loeillet, and Devienne. These duets are fun to play, exciting (sometimes, depending on the speed and which one you picked), and a great place to start.Let's face it though. Are these complex pieces you want to use to brag? Perhaps in the early levels of study. These aren't for the more advanced flute players. This is for beginning flute players who want to improve and go into the intermediate level. It's great for that, though finding another player is tricky. Some pieces sound empty when played alone (then again, it's like there's twice the music, so good deal right there!).All in all, this is a good beginner duet book. It's not for students who have already been introduced to the more advanced pieces of these composers (Telemann's sonatas, Devienne's concertos, etc.), as they will find these pieces simpler than they choose. It's a good book that I recommend to students interested in taking the next step up to becoming good flute players. From here you move onto a whole host of composers and wonderful pieces.
