Very good at reducing hair growth
Wanted to use this for a while before I wrote a review. I've been using it for 4 months now on my legs, underarms and snail trail. I was very skeptical about this product because it has a razor attached and I wouldn't touch my body with a razor if it was the last thing on earth as it makes hair growth worse but this epilator has actually helped to reduce my hair growth.Although it states you should use it weekly to begin with and then fortnightly after you become used to it, I used it a lot less frequently. That's mainly because as a previous waxer, my hairs take quite long to grow back anyway. On average I've used this about 3-4 weeks and I can definitely see a difference. It has drastically reduced the amount of hair in all the areas that I epilate and the rate at which it grows back. The hairs on my underarms are now only visible when you come up close and I get a lot less hair on my snail trail and legs. The Silk-epil is also very easy to use. I started off using it in the shower but found that using it dry gave better results; think it grips the hair better. If you have a low pain threshold, then it may be better to use it wet first to minimize the pain. The light that comes on automatically is very useful to see all the hairs you miss as you go along. I must warn that for best results it's always best to go as slow as you can, the slower I've done it, the better the results I've seen. The first time I did it, it took at least 45mins but as I've got used to it, it now takes about 30 mins to do all areas. Pain-wise, at first it is a little painful, especially on any soft areas such as you underarms but you get used to it after a couple uses. Now I don't even flinch. This could be me not mastering it properly but I find it very difficult to do my underarms. Hairs grow in different directions here and it's difficult to hold your skin taught and epilate at the same time if doing it on your own so my hairs there always looks like they would a day after you've shaven. The only thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars is that, although it gives a good finish, it doesn't give as smooth a finish as waxing does. For me, waxing is the best form of epilation as it not only removes all hair and reduces hair growth over time but it makes your skin look and feel silky smooth. The only down-side was the cost of getting monthly waxes, which is why I got this. And for the money it's saving me and the very good results it gives I think it deserves 4 stars. I'm very happy I got it.

Epilation virgin
I brought this as an epilation virgin and it is great.I followed the advice of using it weekly for the first month and after the first few goes on sensitive I felt brave enough to turn it up to full. Pain a little, but not much. The noise scares my husband more than it hurts me - it can be heard all the way downstairs when I am in the shower (with the shower turned on!)The dual shaving head is great - but I do find that re-growth is quicker if I use this rather than the plain elipator head. After a few weeks I plucked up the courage to use it under my arms and to tidy up other areas - not as bad as I thought it would be and again i followed the inital weekly plan - or though these are the areas that I do find it is best to use the dual shaving head (the instructions tell you not to use it on these areas and there is a special sensitive areas head - but I found that option eye watering)The actual product I give 5 stars - the only reason that I have marked it down to four stars is the storage bag - its very cheap and not what you would expect from a quality brand and especially one that does cost a fair bit of money (to be honest I have got better storage bags from cheap intimate trimmers)And as to the light....well as I am pretty much guessing where my legs are without my glasses on it really is pretty pointless - emergency very noisy spare torch!!!

An Epiphany!
I decided just before Christmas that I was fed up with my current method of hair removal (waxing) and wanted something I had more control of. The annoying thing about waxing I found was the wait for hair to grow long enough for Holga the Hot Waxer to remove.....this meant I had really smooth legs maybe 10 days out of 30 if I was lucky and exfoliated like a mad person. I saw an ad for Braun silk-epil on TV and started researching it on Amazon. I read all the 90 odd reviews and decided to purchase.I used it for the first time today in the shower with a really good shaving cream (Lab Series, Estee Lauder's men range) and there is no way to describe how happy I am with it, and this was without the "Venus" attachment. The light feature really helps you to see stray hairs so it's a bit of a genius modification by Braun. The rubber encasement helps you to grip without slippage and it feels reassuringly sturdy in your hand. It is a bit loud but when I used it in the shower I don't think anyone heard it over the water(?)I would agree with some of the reviewers that you should not use on hair that is too long, but then that is the same with waxing, if the hair is too long it is much more painful....I think that the longer the hair remains in situ the stronger the root becomes and the more painful it is too yank out. You do have to take it nice and slow making sure you give the tweezers the chance to grip and pull out the hair, but To label Braun Sil-epil "painfree" is, I'd say, marketing and PR over-reaching but it is not painful if you use it correctly. If you have your legs waxed then this isn't much worse than that, and considering I have a "Hollywood" bikini line, this method of epilation is a walk in the park!

Good for those who don't like waxing or shaving
I bought this mainly for my partner and actually was surprised at how well it works as I was a little dubious at first. Waxing has always been too painful for me and I've found that shaving doesn't last for long enough so this was one of those in-between-the-two gadgets that I was hoping would work and wouldn't be too painful to use. The one thing I could say is that it takes a bit of time to get used to it as it is basically a lot of tweezers plucking out every hair that it can find so I would recommend using it in the bath or shower when there is plenty of hot water to loosen up your pores because using it dry can sometimes be quite painful. It is a lot nicer than waxing though and, if you don't use the head with the shaving blades, you can easily avoid getting cuts on your legs. It also helps cut down the shaving rash that you can get if you have sensitive skin and there are no chemicals involved at all which is great. It's also easy to clean and comes with everything you need to pretty much get started straight away including full instructions and charging equipment.

Painful at first, but well worth getting used to!
I've always stuck to a razor, as my one experience with waxing left my sensitive skin irritated for more than a week. Recently I have been getting fed up with ingrown hairs in the bikini area as well as unsightly pores on my legs that you get with shaving. I decided to look into epilators, and I am so glad I did!I have now used the epilator on my legs, pits, and bikini line for three successive weeks, and I'm amazed at the results. I didn't bother with the dual head thing, since I'd rather go back to tweeze hairs I've missed than have them shaved off and growing back in a few days. The light is really useful for making sure you see it if you do miss any hairs, but the tweezers are very effective and catch pretty much everything on the first pass. On first use I wasn't sure I'd keep the product - pits and bikini line were shockingly painful - but then it did such a good job on my legs (didn't hurt much there) that I decided to persevere. Three weeks in my legs are smooth and soft, the initial batch of ingrown hairs I developed in the bikini and armpit areas have mostly cleared up, and each time I epilate it hurts less. If you've never epilated or waxed and are thinking of trying this for the first time -- don't let the pain put you off. I am honestly amazed at how much the pain has reduced in only three sessions, and am so pleased I didn't give up.Worth the effort!
