Is the bottom of the jar glazed and smooth or unfinished and rough?

my two jars were nicely glazed all over including the bottom there were no rough edges on mine

What is a material that's in side of the top feels like foil

I took the foil off, didn't seem to serve any necessary purpose, the lid worked fine without it.

Can you take the tinfoil off the bottom of the lid?

I did not remove foil from bottom of lid. I believe the purpose of the foil is for a tighter seal.
