Star Wars Hoth Ice Planet Retro Game

Bought it for the figure, but the game is ok.
I bought this for the exclusive figure. I have played the game with my son and it's ok but gets a bit boring after a while. The packaging and game items are lovingly recreated in the vintage style - I especially like the instructions pamphlet, which is wonderfully retro in its design (I'm guessing it's the original design re-created?). Overall worth getting if you want the figure, and like basic retro games.

Overflowing with nostalgia
As a passionate collector I was first thinking to buy the vintage style Snowspeeder figure loose in an auction it would become available. But then again as a family we very much like board games. And we like Star Wars even more. So decided to get the full set.I used to own the 1977 Death Star Run board game from Parker that I found quite nice and exciting at the time. So having this game in a similar format and with 1970’s vintage-style pictures on the box is spectacular. The game and pieces looks and feels as if it was time-transported from my childhood. Excellent idea. And god, I wish I had it around in my younger years. The plastic snow speeder and millennium falcon play pieces are interesting but for the rest its cardboard and paper. It’s a simple straightforward but fun game that can be played by children of most ages. Though it is not a fast paced game, the spinner determines your action during each turn. You can have an incident or a battle, in which you use your gathered force cards, that represent your skill. To my surprise we actually quite like to game and have played it a good few times with the children. The vintage style Luke Hoth snowspeeder pilot resembles the original Luke X-wing pilot. The body and legs of this 5-point articulated figure are almost an exact copy of the original, almost that is, because Luke now has a warm collar and the detail on the right and left legs are swapped. Also he is wearing thick gloves now and the visor of his helmet is down. Perhaps most noticeable and most exciting to me is that he got a new, somewhat crude tow-line launcher as a weapon, this gun fits well with the original vintage line accessories. And he comes with his blue light sabre.Perhaps this was a ‘cheap way for Hasbro to release new vintage style figures.. but a new figure it is ! So I had to get it to complete my collection. Like all vintage action figures it lacks colour, detail, articulation. And it looks a little clunky. But all this adds to the charm. And given that I have several vintage snow speeders (those were among my favourite vintage Star Wars vehicle back in the day) I might still try to get a few more loose figures of these.Compared the other recently released new vintage figures like Tarkin or the multi-coloured retro Darth Vader, this may be a less exciting figure. But I’m still glad Hasbro is taking a new look at this magical, nostalgic line and very pleased to have it.

Good but battle damaged...
This was ordered using 'Amazon Prime' however the package arrived damaged and only in an Amazon grey plastic bag for protection. The figure had moved and the box was crushed so much that in the corner a hole appeared on the box. Shoddy to say the least! The box would look much better without the fake edge wear too. It would have gotten a better rating had the package not been damaged.
