Chill Factor (Weather Warden, Book 3)

This was a good story. I liked how it went from the past to the present and that Joanna was at the center of so much, yet didn’t even know it. I did think she would have put things together sooner though. The moment it was brought up about glass bottles falling around the dead woman’s body as Orry killed her with a knife, it was obvious that somehow the missing Djinn would turn up with him.With all the various Djinn that were passed on to human not one got released? That doesn’t seem likely, I would expect several of them to be able to trick the humans into doing something that allowed them to escape. Once one of them did, wouldn’t they have been able to help Jonathan or do it themselves, track their movements back to Orry or someone close in his chain of command?What Quinn/Orry was doing was impressive. Getting Siobhan in with Kevin. Him getting in with the Ma’at. He was an impressive drug dealer, turned smuggler and exotics supplier. His ending was perfect. He thought nothing could happen to him, yet there are always loopholes, as every Djinn and Djinn owner knows. I wish Jonathan had been able to do what he wanted though and share Orry’s life choices with him as he slowly expired.The introduction of the Ma’at was well done. I liked their Egyptian motif and that they then tied their base to the Luxor in Vegas. I think Joanna being who she is and as powerful, would have figured out the counterwave concept herself before this though. Now using the Free Djinn and the humans as a group to create balance, that is all the Ma’at and a much nicer concept to how the world runs them the Wardens trying to force their views on the world order.I do find it interesting that Paul Giancarlo has not been introduced to the Ma’at. Does that mean he wouldn’t be willing to accept a new view of the world, or does it mean he’s already corrupted? Marion may have only just found out about them, but I believe she will become one of their strongest supporters. The balance and counterwave concept could do so much to save lives, and for her that’s obviously the most important aspect.Ending it with Joanna telling them she quits the Wardens was great. I don’t think it was right that Paul threatened her with losing her power if she didn’t tow the company line. No one should be forced to work for them, and they should have the opportunity to quit if they desire. The only time power removal should occur is if someone abuses that power. Wardens are obviously corrupt if they use this threat to keep their members inline.Overall a fun read with lots of twists and turns, past and present.

Chill Factor is the third book in the Weather Warden series. Although this can definitely be read without reading the other books, to fully grasp the characters and what is going on I recommend reading the two previous book.Chill Factor picks up where the previous book left off, with Joanne and David trying to clean up the mess of the Kevin and Jonathan duo. Kevin stole powers of the most powerful warden. In combination with the most powerful djinn ever, Jonathan, this makes for an armageddon waiting to happen.So once again, Joanne decides it's up to her to save the world.Overall I would have given this book 4 1/2 stars, but rounded up just because I love this series so much. The story started off a little slow to me, and took me until 1/4 into the book to really get into the story. It felt very same old same old until a new secret anti-Warden organization showed up.I felt like the Ma'at, the anti-Warden organization, could have been a delved deeper into. They did not take up as large of a role as I thought they would when they first showed up. I'm hoping we find out more about them in upcoming books as there is a lot Rachel Caine could do with this group of people.Joanne is a great character, and is definitely not without her flaws, including her ability to get into trouble. Her witty remarks and ability to kick butt in fashionable clothing makes her a very real and different than some of the other tough heroines I have read about in other urban fantasy series.I wish there had been more scenes between her a David. There were some comments from other characters within the book on how their relationship can never work out as long as she is his master. I hope this is a focus in the next book.Even though there were not a ton of scenes with David, the ones that were there gave me the chills. I absolutely love him as he is still a bit of a mystery.

Worst cover art of the series, but probably the best book! This one's got more plot twists than a box of pretzels. Gotta be careful what I say to avoid spoiling anything: Joanne is back, human again and trying to wrest Jonathan, the most powerful djinn in the universe away from Kevin before he destroys the world with his stolen power. Marion Lewis, Rahel, and David are all back in major supporting roles. We are also introduced to the mysterious Ma'at, a sort of anti-warden group who are hoping (with Joanne's help) to blow Kevin's head off. This series continues to be fresh, witty, and most importantly believable. The "rules" to Caine's alternate reality support the books flow rather than getting in the way like so many other stories in this genre. This particular story is centered in and around Las Vegas. There are some superlative flash backs to events that impacted Joanne's life in that area years before that turn out to be germane in causing and ultimately solving her problems today. It's fast paced and fun, extraordinarily hard to put down once you get started reading it (I finished all 337 pages of this one in just two days). And, of course, there's hot chicks with fast cars too...

Not as good as book 2, but just as good as book 1. I was once again wanting to hit ppl over the head for Joanne. I was sooo mad for her. Especially at the wardens.SPOILER::Now that we know that she is preggers, I have a very strong feeling that the wardens or the other djinn are going to try and capture her baby djinn. I just know that is going to make me want to through the book across the room. I really hope the baby is born by book 5. I dont feel like we got to see david as much in this one, which was sad for me. I hope Joanne finds a way to fix him soon!

If you’ve read the Morganville vampires then you’ll love these! The first 3 books are incredible, very fast paced and draw you in, I did find though that through the third book and beyond that the romance aspect between Joanne and David definitely slows down compared to the first two books and so if this is the main thing keeping you occupied then be prepared to lose interest. I also find that the pace in some of the later books definitely slows down at certain points and so if you’re someone who loses interest in books easily then this collection might not be for you. However, if you’re willing to stick with them it’s definitely worth it as the 3rd book and beyond are definitely a story worth reading and characters worth investing in, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Loved this one was on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns the only thing I disliked about it was the detailed description of the weather phenomenon which unless you studied this you wouldn't have a clue having said that I love the characters and can't wait to read the next one

Book three in the Weather Warden series takes off where book two ended, David and Jo are chasing Kevin and Jonathan while trying to avoid getting killed by them. This book gives is a little Jo background story and also (surprisingly) makes you see Marion Bearheart in a different light. Jo learns some things she doesn't want to believe but has to cope with it.I love Rachel Caine's writing, I'm a huge fan of her Morganville books as well as Weather Warden. Unfortunately I came into the Weather Warden series sorta late so I have some catching up to do but it's fast becoming one of favourite series. And I highly recommend it to all Rachel Caine fans and any urban fantasy fans wanting a wee change from vamps and weres (not that there's anything wrong with them but a little deviation never hurts).Great read with at least gasp-out-loud moment that had me hurting!
