Mother & Babycat

Royal Canin is an excellent brand of cat food. The Mother & Babycat blend is specifically formulated for, well, mother cats and their babies. It has a higher nutritional value than other brands of kitten-specific food. Royal Canin does also make a "kitten" blend of cat food that can be fed to kittens at four or five months of age, but Mother & Babycat covers the first four months of a cat's life, which are the most critical for proper development. It also covers a Queen by maintaining her health as her body is depleted of essential nutrients in the nursing of her babies. One can add a little water to the dried food until it softens, and then lightly ground the pieces creating a pâté like texture, but I have found that it is much more beneficial to feed the dried food as is, in combination to the mousse (wet food). Royal Canin offers an Ultra-Soft Mousse in the Mother & BabyCat line also. As I mentioned in my review on the Royal Canin Mother & Babycat mousse: Over the course of the last several years, several of my girls have had litters of kittens. I have also fostered pregnant cats. It is imperative that kittens, as well as pregnant, and new mother cats, receive proper nutrition. I feed Royal Canin Mother & Babycat, to all litters of kittens, and to their mothers. It is great for their brains, bodies, and coats. I also feed it to pregnant cats to help with the prenatal development of their litter, as well as to ensure that the soon-to-be mother cat is receiving all of the nutrition that she needs. A pregnant cat is eating for more than one, and in most cases, she is eating for an additional five to six babies. Mother & Babycat dried food (and the mousse) is perfect for weaning kittens. The size of the food bits are much smaller than other brands of kitten food. This makes it much easier for baby cats, that are learning to eat dried food, to chew and digest. Weaning kittens don't have as sharp teeth as do adults, so the softer the food, the easier it is for them to eat it. The texture is very appealing to kittens as they develop their preferences for textures, and flavours, of food. It is very easy to digest. It provides essential nutrients that developing kittens need. One can begin using Mother & Babycat once the kittens begin to wean, at about one month to two months of age, depending on the kittens. A weaning kitten will continue to nurse its mother, even up to six months of age. The act of nursing is calming to kittens, even if the mother cat is no longer producing milk. Generally, most kittens are fully weaned by two-and-a-half to three months of age, but some continue to nurse for several more months. While this is normal, the weaning time is generally shortened when the nutritional value of the cat food is good. Royal Canin is an excellent brand of food for cats. I highly recommend it. I also recommend purchasing it from Amazon. Because Royal Canin is quality cat food, and not toxic junk, it is, in my opinion, very expensive cat food. With Amazon, the pricing is fair, there are always sales and special deals on pet foods, and with Subscribe and Save, one saves even more money with regular deliveries. I have paid as much as $24.99 + tax, for this sized bag of food, when purchasing it in various pet stores. With Amazon, I have never paid more than $19. Amazon offers an excellent value for the money, and it is money well spent. I am no longer using the Mother & Babycat, at this time, because the cats that I have have grown past the age where it is necessary. I have switched to them to different food. However, if and when I have another pregnant cat, or litter of kittens: I will begin using it again. I swear by it.

As someone who fosters kittens, this is the absolute best kitten food out there! It is perfect for when the little fuzz balls start to transition from mother's milk only, then wet food, then trying out dry food. The pieces are rather small so it's very easy for them to chew. I even found that some of the kittens I've fostered didn't even care much for wet food and preferred this Royal Canin. And of course mom cats love it too and it provides them with all the nutrients they need. I usually do ultimately switch to Purina Kitten Chow which does have larger pieces once the kittens get bigger, usually around 7 weeks. I also use Purina for mom before the kittens are weaned since it's simply less expensive. But I don't know what I'd do without this wonderful dry food!! Just a Note: Royal Canin also sells food that is just marked as "Kitten" food, not "Momma and Babycat" food, and the bags are almost identical. I purchased the Kitten food once when I wanted the Momma and Babycat food when I wasn't paying attention. The pieces are about twice as large which I personally didn't want, although the kittens didn't complain! So just be careful if it makes a difference to you.

I feed this to kittens I have fostered, kittens dumped by ignorant people at my house ( small rural farm area and for some odd reason people think it's ok to toss unwanted pets like they dump garbage on back roads), and a couple litters from a pedigree cat I bred a while back. Small enough for kittens. But I must warn you, I have had the adults try to eat it and must separate everyone to insure no one gets bullied or doesn't get their share. This stuff they will knock me down for, more so than even treats! I also have a 12 year old that went from 10.3 to 7.2 lbs in one summer, vet said other than concerning weight loss she had no parasites or any abnormal tests ( we thought kidney failure or cancer and so glad it wasn't). She rarely ate her regular royal canin at that time so we started trying to entice her with other food too. This did the trick, but we have to let her nibble all day on it, which is hard with other cats here. They all eat it over treats. And they will leave nothing, no matter how often you top off all the food bowls here. She hasn't lost anymore weight, and has plateaued, but she will only eat this now. More energetic, but picky now. I keep it in sturdy plastic containers so they can't rip up or open the bag ( they will try if they can get a hold of it) and no one has figured out how to open the container yet. Keyword yet. They are smart furballs. Well worth the money in my opinion.

I actually bought this food for my senior cat. I was the only dry food he would eat! I fed him primarily baby food (chicken) because it's all he would eat, but kept this out too and he would munch on a few from time to time. I think it provided a little extra nutrition. The pieces are super tiny and good for young I am sure, but for my old guy who needed all the calories he could get this also worked great

Bought this for a baby kitten because of the stellar reputation of Royal Canin. The food quality is great, and she occasionally eats one or two kibbles. She prefers to dive into the bowl and scatter them all over the floor and chase the tiny kibbles around the dining room making an epic mess. Though she rarely actually eats them (she WILL, however eat the adult cats' food) , she has a great time playing with them. My adult cats love it, and actually eat it, too!

Got it when I picked up my kitten from foster care. Great product even my adult male cat loves it and he’s overweight!! Good for kittens, pellet size make you know the small ones are for kittens.

I've used Babycat successfully for weaning kittens in the past. The tiny kibble helps them to transition to solid food, and they love the taste. I also use it when I have a sick cat that doesn't want to eat; the taste appeals to cats of all ages. Recently I found a new use for Babycat: I have an 18 year old cat that was losing weight. He looked like a walking skeleton despite being in relatively good health. I knew he had some difficulty getting food into his mouth because of missing teeth and a stroke he had several years ago, so I started feeding him Babycat in a little bowl. He's able to lick the food and have it stick to his tongue long enough to get it in his mouth. The extra nutrition has added more meat to his ribs and given his coat new sheen. I really think it's made a difference in his quality of life, and for an old man like him that's no small thing. Just be careful - all of my cats love it, and it will pack the pounds on them as well.

This food is for kittens, but I use it for my special needs cat, Tiny (at the advice of our veterinarian) our cat has dwarfism and stomatitis of his teeth from skull deformities. ( also great for seniors with teeth issues) It’s the only hard food he can chew because of the tiny pieces, and get the proper nutrients he needs. He loves it!

Kitten loves it! I'm pleased with the product but cannot comment on the quality because of my limited knowledge about cat food. I'm just so pleased my kitten is eating it as they can be so fussy.

Excelente alimento; viene en pequeños trozos para la deglución de los bebés, a mi pequeño le fascina por lo que supongo el sabor es delicioso. Adopte a mi gatito, al recibirlo venía con anemia, raquitismo e infección en la pancita; este alimento lo levantó (claro, junto con su adecuada medicación ) y en menos de un mes ya está súper bien, su veterinario me lo recomendó ampliamente e hizo incapie en que no se lo cambiara. No fue necesario ni siquiera comprarle leche de gatito ya que este alimento cuenta con todos los nutrientes necesarios para la transición de destete. Relación calidad-precio? Obviamente por ser un producto premium el costo es alto pero lo vale si es que quieres que tus peques crezcan sanos y fuertes. De esta forma evitarás en un futuro demasiadas visitas al doctor y que desarrollen ciertas enfermedades. Llegó en perfectas condiciones y al siguiente día que hice el pedido (no tengo cuenta prime).
