Sarah Journeys West: An Oregon Trail Survival Story (Girls Survive)

Hope & Heartwarming
I found this book by googling "blacks on the Oregon Trail." The author did a good job with making tough topics such as racism, death & dysentery easy to understand for young readers. I loved reading about the families' journey to the west!Although I enjoyed the book, I didn't think the constant message that "women can do anything men can" fit into the storyline. It was very forced in my humble opinion. Just let a good book be a good book without a forced agenda.

Easy story misses some opportunities
I got this for my child’s battle of the books for our state, and I’m glad it includes a Black family and is written by a POC, but I do wish there was a little more to indicate the problems with colonialism and manifest destiny.
