The inspiring New York Times bestseller When Mitt and Ann Romney met in their late teens, a great American love story began. And their life together would be blessed: five healthy sons, financial security, and a home filled with joy. Despite the typical ups and downs, they had a storybook life. Then, in 1998, Ann was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She couldn't believe it was real; there were no therapies or treatments to help her. Mitt told her that day that they would tackle the diagnosis as a team: They were in it together. "As long as it isn't fatal, we're fine. If you have to be in a wheelchair, I'll be right there to push it," he told her. And Ann thought, "But I'll be the one in the wheelchair." A caregiver and helper her whole life, she'd crossed a terrible invisible line. She wouldn't be able to care for her family anymore. She was the patient. Ann and Mitt would face the most frightening and humbling experience of their lives. From reflections on her early life, her marriage, and her diagnosis and recovery, the sources of her faith, and the stories of others who overcame adversity and inspired her to keep going, In This Together is a brave and deeply honest portrait of a family facing an unexpected blow, often in the most public of circumstances. "A lot of people talk about a transformation that happens when life throws you a curve ball, and the big one in my life was my MS diagnosis. With all the blessings I've had, MS has been my greatest teacher: It has taught me about faith, compassion, and serving others. I've met many people along the way who've shared advice and demonstrated enormous resilience in the face of challenges; their stories gave me strength. In sharing my story, I want to give others hope as I've been given hope on this journey." Review: The "in this together" philosophy for one whose spouse has MS or anyone who has MS, and also for family members & close friends - In her book, Ann Romney discusses in a very readable and highly communicative and inspiring, insightful, truthful and uplifting way her life as a person with MS, and how she has approached, as an individual, and as the wife of Mitt Romney, living with MS. My wife and I have faced my wife's MS together for 29 years, and I found Ann's book a very meaningful and engaging discussion of the "in this together" principle and attitude for a husband and wife who are committed to living with MS in a strongly mutual supportive way as the best approach for facing and living together with MS. I recommend Ann's book very highly for anyone whose spouse has MS, as well as for anyone who as an individual has MS and also their family members and close friends. Review: Phenomenal book; this lady needs to be First Lady. She is pure, unadulterated class! - I couldn't wait to get it on my Kindle the day it came out (I had not read any of her others, was impressed from some of her interviews about this book). I couldn't put it down once I started it and did not want it to end. Never have I heard such humility, courage, honesty, strength, benevolence and if I left out any good character traits, please fill in the blanks. She and Mitt are pure, unadulterated class and should be dragging this ruined country out of the much in which it has been dumped. I am Not LDS, nor do I have a diagnosed illness, well, except for coronary artery disease but that is mostly controllable for a "normal" life, but her story, told the way she tells it has to be a beacon of hope for all who can benefit from it in that way. Just a huge big Thank You, Ann; you are some kind of fine lady.

I enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book. Wished for more scientific research data and breakthroughs to be shared. Interesting alternative therapy experiences and their benefits.i.e., reflexology, diet, equestrian. I applaude her philanthropy for the Ann Romney Neurologic Center in Boston. Ann's been lucky that her MS has stayed in a remission level for so long of which she shares, "they don't know just why." She willingly remains a guinea pig of sorts with MRI's and blood work for research. After reading this it did give me pause if this is MS or Lyme disease or both? The diagnosis was made in 1997, when little was known of Lyme disease. The neurological symptoms of Lyme can and do mimic other neurological illnesses. Lyme disease just wasn't on the medical radar in '97 as it is today and the testing to determine such has been convoluted and politicized. She never mentions in the book that Lyme had been considered or testing done. Both, her love of horses and living in the new england area where the cases of Lyme (and MS) are high. My niece in Vermont went undiagnosed for six years before finally being diagnosed as Lyme. It presented as other neurological sumptoms, muscle weakness, brain fog, etc all being misdiagnosed with repeated negatives for Lyme. I'd recommend this book, its a great read and the cost of book is 100% donation for research.

Fantastic book!!! I'm only starting chapter 4 but I have laughed, cried and become so involved in her story. I am a big fan of the Romneys and I love knowing more about them. I am also fighting MS and find her life so inspirational. Ann is a lovely lady with a lovely heart. Thanks for such an amazing book, I can't wait to finish it!

This was an easy read and very inspiring
This was an easy read and very inspiring! She is such a good storyteller! I am so impressed with Ann Romney after reading her memoir and I am grateful for her involvement in research for MS and other diseases since my daughter was recently diagnosed with MS. She is a great example of determination and hope for living with this disease.

Thank you Ann for your inspiration.
I had three reasons for purchasing this book. I have MS, I voted for Mitt, and I'm a Mormon. Ann did not disappoint. It was so good to know that someone like her had felt the same way I had with MS. Although it was great to know that equine therapy helped her, that is not reasonable for most of us, especially those of us who had to retire before we wanted to, however she did acknowledge that she was blessed to be affluent enough to seek out all modes of treatment. I did appreciate that she spoke of the bone tiredness and the fear and depression that takes hold when you first get that diagnosis. I appreciated her descriptions of her relationship with her husband and it was nice to get a little view inside their lives. I was especially touched by her description of them linking pinkies to signal their connection. I am grateful for all the work that Ann does for those of us with neurological illnesses. She would have made a fine First Lady.

Beautifully inspiring
I had purchased this book a few months ago and placed it in my iCloud to read at a later time. Interestingly enough, I now find myself looking for more info on MS and just yesterday happened across "In This Together" again. Couldn't have been rediscovered at a better time. So grateful, Ann, that you took the time and energy to share your story, your fight and determination, and all that you've learned about MS. Truly a godsend. Thank you.

Very strong person, but it also shows that if you have a very very good income you can afford to try other methods of healing besides, Western Medicine, I firmly believe in alternative methods of healing and the importance of good nutrition. however it is discouraging to know that there are methods out there that can heal but insurance companies will not cover them even if it would mean less cost to them especially in the prescription areas. I know that I cannot afford on a fixed income a large out of pocket cost. I am fortunate to be fairly healthy at 73, good weight, good heart, and some arthritis, but my 84 year old husband is not and that keeps me from doing much direct exercise on a regular basis.

Great Great Book
Well written and easy reading. Ann Romney wrote brightly about her life a little bit before and after MS. How it changes her life for worst and after some adjustments for a new kind of world. Congrats

I wish she had written more of MS and less of politics. Maybe story should have been written years later to give more insight of how MS was affecting her over many years.
