I Can't, I Won't, No Way!: A Book For Children Who Refuse to Poop

Shocked at how much this book helped!
In frustration over my 4 year old son's pooping issues -- a total regression to only pooping in his underwear -- I started searching for books to read. Instead of a book for me to read, I ended up buying this children's book as a first step. And I barely believe it, but my son has pooped 3 of the last 4 times in the toilet, and one of those times he even went to the bathroom without an adult suggesting it. This is a major, major change!! A miracle! My interpretation of what this book does is that it covers the complex feelings my son has about pooping in the potty. Sometimes he's angry, sometimes he's afraid, sometimes he's frustrated, sometimes he just doesn't want to deal. The book zooms through those different feelings, and asks that Mom and Dad please have patience. And then the book ends with a lot of pride from everyone. We were all angry and impatient with each other over pooping in the potty. This book gave my son (I think, I guess?) a tangible path from his negative emotions to understanding that it isn't that hard and he can do it. No amount of lecturing from adults was doing that.

Weird book but works
While the illustrations are weird, my daughter (3 years old) loved it. We were really struggling to help her go and it was becoming so stressful to her and us. After a week of reading it to her she goes without drama. Highly recommend.

Weird little graphics
Ok it’s got weird little graphics and just not the best book BUT my 3-year old likes it SO between this one, another one and a lot of poop kids videos & talk about it were on the right track and she wants to read it and repeats the I can’t I won’t no way words! Ha

Got my kid to poop!
My child has been on and off holding #2 since he was 2 yr old. He has ups and downs-constipated, on Miralax, super fussy from being uncomfortable then finally back to regular going on the potty. This past “down” time was lasting a long time and I was very concerned. I searched and this book came up. I ordered out of desperation. After a couple of reads and about 2 days he was back on the potty going like normal. I changed up some of the wording and didn’t read word for word. He likes the ending when it shows the girl going potty too. Showing him all kids go potty. Since getting this book he’s been going #2 regularly and just fine. Highly recommend! He asks for the potty book!

Unimpressed
Have been researching for books to help my almost 3 year old to stop holding her poop which leads to awful constipation.I personally didn’t find this book was relatable to her, so I wouldn’t recommend it. The rhyming and pictures aren’t great either. It’s not motivating or helpful to a young child who is holding his or her poop. You’re better off purchasing the “softy” poop book.

Helped my 3 year old go!
I honestly thought I'd need to pull out the "big guns" for my girl withholding her poo. It was out of hand. I read this book and for whatever reason, she just let it go finally! We still have problems here and there but she seems to be understanding that usually she's the one stopping things from moving along.

100% Recommend
My 3yo REFUSED to poop on the potty/ toilet. Something about it terrified her. She would end up either holding it for days or poop in her underwear. After ordering this book, she started regularly pooping on the potty within a few days! Would definitely recommend to anyone having the same struggle.

Too negative
The idea for this book is great, but I was surprised when I read it that the story is so negative. Through the whole book it just talks about how the boy won't poop, he's scared, he doesn't know why, he runs away to hide etc. Then in the last few pages he just miraculously uses the toilet and says how easy it is and "you can do it too" and THE END. All this did was cause my daughter to want to hide while she pooped (which she wasn't doing prior to reading this book) because she wanted to copy the child in the story.I ended up completely taking the book apart, omitting some pages, completely changing the words of the story and putting it back together to create a more positive version. Four days of reading my rewritten version and my daughter started pooping in the toilet and has everyday since then! If this book helped other families that's great, but it just wasn't right for us. In the end I was able to make it work, but if I had known I'd have to basically write my own story from it anyway I could have saved my self the time and money I spent getting this one.

How Does This Magic Work?!?
I have a strong willed three year old who knew all the potty basics but refused to potty train. We were months trying to get him to potty and he was so stubborn. We read this book once and talked a little bit about it. He asked to read it a second time and that was it, he was potty trained. It sounds unbelievable but it’s true! He started wearing underwear and has never had an accident! I recommend this book to anyone struggling with a child who knows how to potty but may be a little nervous or stubborn!

Like magic
Our DS has been potty trained for over 18 months but never managed to master number 2s. We tried it all, until a combination of doctor recommended softener and this book. It took a few days when he read it attention. We even heard him a few times saying "promise you will try". And it all happened suddenly and keeps doing it. Just magic.

Weird
This story reads like it's messaging adults, too weird. Wish I had been able to preview the story before throwing away $36 on a book that isn't even a good story, and definitely not a helpful one.
