Great Reference for Steam Turbines
I have spent a few days looking through the book and recognize that there is a lot of meaningful information. I am using the book as both a refresher and then to deepen my understanding of the material. This text looks like it will help me to accomplish both goals. So I would encourage anyone that is looking into either learning the material for the first time, looking for a refresher or improving their expertise this text will help. The only downside to the text so far, is that some of the detailed drawings do are not that clear. For example, there is a drawing highlighting the different nozzle arrangements but there is not enough clarity to see what is supposed to be called out in the illustration. So I have had to look for other material to see these items to follow the author's description. I had planned to complement this text in my studies anyway so it is not that much of a bother to me but I could see where it might be for others.

I am a senior engineer at a turbine repair company. Sanders is my bible.Volume 1 focuses on damage mechanisms and operational considerations leading to those damage mechanisms. It would be of great benefit to someone performing a root case analysis of a steam turbine failure or physical deterioration. Vol. 1 is also helpful for justifying or explaining to management why damage has occurred or why a specific repair should be made.Volume 2 focuses on the engineering aspects of repair techniques, quality control, and inspection guidelines. Vol. 2 is a repair manual. If you are fixing a turbine, or managing a vendor who is fixing your turbine, this book will almost certainly cover the specific repair(s) needing to be done. Both volumes are completely black and white. The diagrams are crisp and sharp. Photos are mostly clear and legible, although some are old and not completely in focus. Some of these damage mechanisms and repair techniques are uncommon, and photos are very hard to come by, so any photo is better than none. There are other books that go into more detail about design, operation, vibration analysis, and efficiency calculations. If that is what you need, this is probably not the book for you. However, no other reference covers the engineering of steam turbine repairs as comprehensively as Sanders.
