An well done book with references
This is more than just a book of images that Gordon Parks took of Muhammad Ali. What can you expect? This hardcover book reads almost like a history book. It has high quality reproduced images, there is background to the story, commentary and images of Muhammad Ali in and out of the ring (this shows some of Parks' excellent framing). There is a part on London, relaxation, visiting children, preparing for fights and documents reporduced in the book (i.e. items related to travel, magazine images etc). There are notes on the plates (images) and references in the back.If you have seen Howard L. Bingham's work on Ali - he extensively photographed him over his career - you can see how Parks' takes a different angle. Both produced excellent images. What is really interesting in Parks' work, though, is there are some contact sheets and even a few kodachrome slides added, which give an idea into his thinking at the scene (most of the images in the book are black and white). If you are wondering whether this is worth the roughly $39 USD price, the answer is yes. Look at the prices of his books and you will see this is a bargain.

An outstanding and intimate Portrayal of The Greatest
Ali is my childhood hero.As a photojournalist, Gordon Parks is a great inspiration to me.This book is a celebration of two iconic individuals who both fought against a system that brought misery to black people. This is a wonderful book about Ali.This young Ali is champion of the world and Gordon Parks created these intimate images of a young man discovering his identity and voice during the turbulent 1960s.I was born in 64 and just a baby during this period of Ali’s life so I am grateful that Gordon Parks was given this assignment because he brought class and dignity to this photographic essay on one of the greatest men ever to walk this planet
