I debated between a full sized industrial timer and an in-switch timer to replace the motion detector on our driveway lights. I was looking for simplicity; I just want some light when I get home, not a sensor that may or may not trip and lights that may or may not stay on until I get out of the car. Based on comments from other reviewers I bought a separate switch box to mount it in so I had enough room to install it easily. Since I was installing a box I was able to move it to a more accessible spot than I had originally planned and I'm glad I did. It installed easily, looks good, programs easily, and (so far) works perfectly.I was puzzling through the step by step directions when I noticed a simple wiring diagram printed on the side of the device. The diagram actually had all the information I needed to hook it up. I have now added a second program, something I would not have able to do with the more expensive switch, and am very pleased with my purchase.

Many years ago after having disappointing results with photocells, I purchased three Intermatic Model EJ351 timers to control my outside lights, turning them on at night and off in the morning. They worked quite well, but they would work only with incandescent light bulbs. They would not work with either CFL nor LED bulbs. They were also difficult to reset after power outages, time changes, and changes in the seasons. I bought these Intermatic EI700C timers as replacements and have been very pleased. They are easier to set, have a backup battery that should maintain settings during power outages, and are easier to reset for time changes and changes in the seasons.

We have had this timer for 9 yrs; suddenly the timer only worked manually. I ordered a replacement and paid our handyman to install it. Unfortunately, it was a dud. Thankfully with Amazon's great return policy I was able to get a replacement quite promptly, which is working perfectly. When I went farther back with reviews I discovered that this situation has been experienced by other customers. In spite of the hassle, inconvenience and unnecessary expense of two installs I really do like this timer. Hopefully I can get extended use with this one.

This product is awesome. Very easy to install. All you have to do is remove existing switch and replace with this timer switch. I installed this on the light switch for the 4 exterior lights on the front of the house. I programmed it using the 7 day program and it was extremely easy to do so. the lights turn on exactly at the time i programmed and they turn off as programmed as well. I am extremely pleased with this purchase because it works as advertised.......no complains at all. You cannot go wrong with this product. This works with CFL bulbs as well as the new LED bulbs without any glitches. I tried both these types of bulbs and they work like a charm with the timer switch.

We have enjoyed this particular switch for several months now. It controls an exterior light that we rarely see after dark and we forget to shut it off. When it stays on all night, 100s of spiders have built their home happily capturing the bugs attracted to the light. This makes for a nasty entrance over time and it is a half day job just cleaning up the "mess" spiders make, and it's creepy. So, now we have this timer switch that allows us to set it at dark for just an hour or two (or bedtime) and it shuts off automatically. There is now much less to clean up at the side entrance. It was very easy to install without a professional, as long as your handyman or woman knows the basics about messing with electrical wiring. My husband next wants to wire one in the bathroom for timed exhaust fans, but I'm not so convinced on the exhaust. Maybe if he installed a bathroom heater, I might change my mind }\: )

Product comes complete with all necessary wire nuts and screws so no extra parts will be needed to install this. Open your current switch box to see if you'll have sufficient room to hold a standard sized dimmer switch PLUS all the extra wire nuts for all wires. This might be difficult without having the items in your hand so use your imagination and the Intermatic website to get the device's physical dimensions.While installing, make sure you follow the standard safety procedures and pay very close attention to the difference between the black wire going to the light bulb fixture and the fuse panel.Once installed, the one bug to overcome was the need to reset the device upon first power up. This was not mentioned in the instructions and left me wondering if I installed it incorrectly, had a faulty device, or just user error. Of course, it was user error, but it wasn't in the install instructions. The rest was super easy to set the timer.Great product with my CFL bulb. Good luck!

Used timer for outside lights. Installed in a box with two other standard switches. Wiring was a bit tight and the timer took up a lot of depth. With a little maneuvering I got it in and it works great!! Easy to program and override if needed. Good instructions.

I have used Intermatic timers, both mechanical and electronic, for over 20 years and have always been very satisfied with their performance and the compact designs of their electronic timers. In purchasing this product, I was looking to replace an old electronic timer that had died with one that could handle CFLs. After hooking up all four wires with the wire nuts provided, I found that the switch (and the connectors with wire nuts) would not fit in the standard metal electrical box that is installed in my 43-year old house. The switch was too deep. The dimensions provided in the product description on Amazon and on the manufacturer's site were incorrect and misleading. When I called Intermatic, their Customer Support people, though polite, neither apologized for the incorrect specification, nor did they attempt to help with the situation. Since I had made an attempt to install the product already, the product could not be returned. I am stuck without a suitable timer that has the features advertised for this product.

Easy to install. Works well with compact fluorescent lights. No batteries required and straightforward to program. Only thing is make sure there is room in the gang box, the switch does take up a good amount of space.
