This book answers every question you can think of during your pregnancy. It covers all physical expectations and surprises, as well as what to expect emotionally from the day you find out you're pregnant, to the day after delivery. It even tells you what kind of pain to expect during labor and delivery. It describes in laymen's terms what is going on inside your body and all the medical jargon and testing.Mayo Clinic is a world-renowned hospital with wonderful doctors who collaborated on this book. And the best thing is, it's far from being preachy and paranoid. The Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy is based on the truth that women have been successfully getting pregnant and having babies for THOUSANDS OF YEARS and all those strict rules and myths about what you can and can't do are not necessarily true. My interpretation is that this book encourages a healthy lifestyle without alchohol, drugs or smoking... other than that, the average pregnant woman has very few limitations.

Forget the fear-mongering "What to Expect" series - this book is hands-down the best pregnancy and newborn book out there. It's a tragedy that it seems to have gone out of print! It's concise, direct, calm, clear, well-written, and contains really relevant, medically sound information. Very well-ordered, so it's easy to find what you're looking for. I had four babies in the space of 7 years, so I've read LOTS of baby books, and this one was the one I always returned to. I sent this used copy to a friend who is newly pregnant with her first child - wish Mayo Clinic would just issue a new edition!

I have only gotten half way through this book so far but this book provides a lot of good information. It helped me with my first appointment so that I better understood all of the information that was explained to me and so that it wasn't so overwhelming because I had already read about what the doctor was explaining. Some of the information may be a bit dated like when it refers to testing being new, it is no longer new; however, all information appears to still be applicable.

I was very excited to receive this book, and started reading it immediately. It is a large hard-cover edition, certainly making it feel as though it has all the information you'll ever need. I'm sure this book has tons of good information, but when I got to the nutrition section, I knew that the food pyramid they showed was out of date. I hadn't checked the copyright when I ordered the book and was disappointed to see that it was published in 1994! 12 years old is pretty old when it comes to any medical/health information, and so I'm returning it for the more updated "Mayo Clinic Guide to a healthy Pregnancy". I would have liked the new version to also cover the first year of life like this book, but I need up-to-date information, or I won't trust it.

Lots of medical advice -- including some very detailed descriptions of routine tests and procedures; it seems to be designed to help those folks who are well educated in a field other than medicine figure out exactly what our obstetricians are saying.Because this is a medical book, there's naturally a lot of focus on the things that require medical intervention -- including detailed descriptions of some genuinely frightening complications of pregnancy.There's a lot in here that's good to know about, but you might want to supplement it with a more chatty, user-friendly, encouraging sort of book.

Without a doubt the BEST book purchase you can make for a reference book about pregnancy and the baby's first year. The Mayo Clinic is one of the best medical institutions in the world so when they say something, people listen. So instead of running around the internet reading "medical advice" from obscure websites that you can't tell if they are authentic or not, go ahead and purchase this book. Everything you need to know is here! I have used it many times, I learned a lot from it and I highly recommend it.

Bought it for my daughter who just recw toy got pregnant and this is a great book for all information. I used it with all my kids.

I always tell my kids to go to the Mayo Clinic with any medical questions because you can trust them. However, I didn't realize I was buying this OLD book regarding pregnancy and the first year of your baby. Not Mayo Clinic's responsibility but mine to check the publishing date of a book, but the seller should not have only put it up for sale but shouldn't even donate it with such old information.
