Comfy and durable and last well
So this is an update on how the boots are going, I've had them for over a year now and I've done hundreds of miles over all sorts of terrain including the mountains in Scotland, Wales and loads in the Lakes. I usually wear Meindl's but the price of them has gone through the roof and I decided to take a punt on the Salewa Mountain Trainers. I'm glad I did, first of all I got lucky with the fit, they are awesome, I'm usually an 11 so I ordered an 11.5 (I think a 12 would have been ok too) and they are well fitting with a mid depth sock and snug (not too snug) with a big winter sock. They are waterproof, I've never had a problem with them and are robust, they have been kicked all over and the build quality seems fantastic. They were quite stiff at first but after a while they became very comfortable. The lacing is good and the system they have never lets your heel slip, in fact they have just the right amount of cushioning. The sole is quite aggressive looking with a fairly high drop but I always seem to have the right amount of feel/stiffness about them. Obviously they fit my feet well and I've got a second pair! Recommended by me and my feet!

Fantastic boot
Used for winter trip to Wales. Bloody amazing boot, and fit true to size. I usually go one size up, but was recommended to go for normal size due to the fit. Very comfy, sturdy and good grip when walking. Highly, highly recommended boot.

Brilliant boots
Arrived super fast. First impressions were that the boots felt a little stiff but they looked really well made and surprisingly light. I am a size 10 and had ordered a 10.5 and they were a snug fit. The soles are very grippy and a little stiff but I do prefer a stiff sole. The boot gives plenty of support to the ankles without rubbing. I put them on to do a 2 hour dog walk over the hills and moors and was very sceptical about the 100% blister free from the start claim. Well after 5 minutes I forgot that I had new boots on. No rubbing and no blisters. The boots are a joy to wear and 100% recommend them….

Great Lightweight Boots.
Great fit, light weight but with a nice hard sole. A great 3 season boot. I haven’t tested them in the rain yet but I’ll be getting my leather boots out for the winter.

Lovely Boot
So, i am usually a Mammut kind of guy but thought I would try another brand. I consider myself as an "intermediate" Hiker/climber so this review will be based from my activity. So, out of the box i completed a fairly technical 15.5 mile hike up and down cliff edges and coastal paths (a section of South West coast path) to break them in and i can say overall i am pleased with this boot, but there are some drawbacks to them. I will start with the positives, the boot looks purposeful, is very waterproof and warm (torrential rain and 40mph headwind for most of the hike) and the boots held up well and best of all NO BLISTERS! The boot is relatively comfortable too initially. The stiff sole helped on the steep climbs and descents and the lacing system held my feet in place. I take a 10.5 but bought an 11 and had plenty of room available. So, the bad bits: The boot feels a little heavy and is very stiff but, but i am still breaking them in. The sole feels like you are walking with boards under your feet and as a result the underside of my feet felt tender and a little bruised the day after. The boot had little to no grip across wet rocks and found myself slipping a fair bit. The lacing system is brilliant, but fiddly, when putting the boots on you catch the laces in the wrong eyelets which was frustrating. I will try and remember to update my review after a few more hikes, hopefully drier conditions but overall i am pleased with the boot and will try some inserts to ease up the feel of bruising. I would recommend if you do a mixture of technical mountains and occasional sunday stroll, but if you are a sunday stroll walker i would not recommend these for you. I feel my crampons will work well with these boots also for the alpine climbs.
