Mixed Bag
This book is a mixed bag. It is comparable to the Osprey series in outlook although it has a cheaper magazine feel. The story never goes into any real depth but covers its subject in broad strokes. The subject is interesting enough and so far poorly covered in English the battles of the Hungarian plain and Budapest but this book doesn't go much further than say Wikipedia.Pros:It has plenty of pictures and color plates that are helpful for modelers along with a number of pictures of men and uniforms and having so many of these I bring it up to 2 stars since the quality of text merits little more than 1 star.Cons:Editing and proofreading is terrible. The original clearly written in French seems to have gone through a computer translation with minimal editing and proofreading. Some maps are funny, like on page 7 where some countries are in English and others in French. Map on page 13 is in French entirely (Unités hongroises etc), words are cut in the most unusual places, like the word "the" (page 37 becomes t - and -he in the second line and the text is very poor in places:Without doubt, this is also largely unknown last "charge" by the garrison, takes its place amongst history's bloodiest military assaults like those of sucicidal Japanese banzai attacks or the first wave to hit Omaha beach.(Text page 40 at the start of chapter The Break-Out)Conclusion:Source material of poor quality, writing and editing that is help along with a lot of pictures in a magazine format. I for one will not be looking for more titles in the same series.

On Second Thought
A while back I gave this book a 3 Star review and had some criticisms. I think the criticisms were valid, but for a book this size I was probably expecting too much. The truth is, I think this book is a tremendous value and that the author has crammed a lot of information and detail into a very short space. There are things I would like to see, of course, and questions remain: If the author reads this, my question for the German Order of Battle just before the Russian Vienna Offensive does not include the Hungarian 3rd Army. But overall I think this book is a great value...well, at its published price it was a great value. And worthy of applause.

Hungary 1944-1945: The Panzers' Last Stand
A good subject and a little covered part of WWII. However the format and chronology was somewhat disjointed. The Battle Maps often didn't seem to jibe with the narrative.Good colour drawings and photographs ,but like the narrative there was not a lot of background to flesh it out.Despite these flaws I did enjoy what I read and the book is now a permanent part of my library.

Hungary 1944-1945 - or STALIN's EUROPE for real
STALIN's EUROPE is the Flame of War war game title from BattleFront in NZ on the battle of Hungary and Buda-Pest. This book provides photos and background to those battles in more detail than the game supplement does. The maps could be better - and there isn't an enormous amount of detail at the tactical level, but the operational/strategic battles are covered and the photographs and vehicle drawings are excellent. Recommended but suspect there is a more complete history of this period elsewhere on Amazon.

It's OK.
I was mostly interested to see if there was something new here as the subject has been covered extensively in other books. "The Panzers Last Stand" is an OK overview of the subject. The photo reproduction quality within the booklet is somewhat disappointing. Get this booklet if you are unfamiliar with the topic and are looking for summary coverage.

Very good book
Fast service and packed well. The book is a light overview of a complex battle and covers it well. Images are good if not grainy but a few seem stills from movie footage. Not that this detracts from the book. A good purchase
