Welcome to your homecoming . . . it's goin' be a bloodbath
After watching season one of this series and seeing the amazing ending with plans to make a second season I immediately sought out the light novels, and then wrestled with buying book three or wait for the next season to be declared. I caved in June and dove into the next arc of this tale.So continues the adventures of the extremely cautious hero and his bumbling sidekick goddess, sent once again to save another world after Rista's actions in the last novel, but this time it's personal. They are tasked with rescuing the very same world they failed to save as a B-Rank world, now an SS-Rank world. The reason I don't give this a full five stars even though the plot, action, and our hero's amazing solutions is the character growth. Reading the intro to this book we see both characters grow, gain better understanding and try to better themselves . . . only for a convenient mistake and surprise attack to make them reset to how they were originally: a hero who's so overly cautious that he becomes unbearable and a goddess so useless she's not better than a healing herb (there words not mine). I really looked forward to this book since it showed them facing their past and building as a team, then the author decides we can't have the status quo change at all. The story is still fun, Seiya's plans are awe inspiring, and the other gods are fun to see. But our main cast are sadly one-dimensional, going from "I remember everything and I want to do better together with you" to "You useless weed, why are you even here I can do it alone" is just hard to read, especially when you can't disagree with them. Overall, this is a good book, but the main character's relationship is back to the beginning with no progress and can be annoying at times.

A solid entry
A darker and less comedic LN compared to the previous entries in the series, but a solid entry all the same. Good set-up for future instalments. Look forward to seeing what happens!
