Yes they are just spools, but with the four cutouts to hold the end of the cords (2 each side), it really works quite well. They are a sturdy resin, so I expect them to last. Value for the money? Quite frankly it should be 2 for $10 in my opinion. But overall these are great and do the job, with no winding mechanism that would eventually break.

Best way I have ever seen to handle the wire tangle. Simple but effective.

I thought it had a spring-loaded winder; my fault for not reading the descriptions closely enough. It’s just a hard rubber reel; doesn’t even have an inset side handle to turn for winding. I kept it because manual winding does work, and it’s my fault for not reading it carefully enough.

I got this for an ipod that I use a wired ear piece with. I like that you can adjust the length of the wire that you want to use, in other words, you don't have to unwind it totally if you don't need the whole thing. Helps to keep organized.
