One Man Band Extraordinaire
I first saw Son of Dave back in 2006 at a gig in a tiny pub in Canterbury and don't know why it took me so long to buy this album. This is pure raw blues at its finest. SOD's foot stomping, harp blowing, rattle shaking tunes still stand out and the infectious rhythms will make you want to dance along to every song.If you like this, make sure to catch him live. Amazing!

Smokin'
Huffing and puffing throughout, these mean and moody tracks spit fire and ooze a soulful atmosphere, as if an old train is heading on home - straight through your life. Primal grunts and dirty howls line the tracks as smoke fills the air around you, dimming the lights way down low.

Best album of the year?
This album is one of the most startling out there at the movement. Son of Dave (real name B. Darvil, according to the back of the album cover) plays harmonica and sings, but also takes up the space normally held by the rythm section, stamping grunting and humming to create a brilliantly hypnotic backing. This isn't hip-hop style human beatbox, but a really inventive accompaniment. The songs reveal Son of Dave influences: there are some great blues covers, Rollin' and Tumblin', Mannish Boy, and a particularly a superb interpretation of Crossroad Blues. San Francisco is a relaxing change of pace, and he's joined by Martina Topley Bird for the excellent Devil Take My Soul. The great thing about this album is the combination of old and new styles. Truly fantastic listening.

Outstanding
I bought this album after seeing him on Later with Jools. He is spectacular! Ben (former member of Crash Test Dummies) is a "one man band" of the highest quality. I haven't had an oppourtunity to see him live, but some of these tracks give you an insight into how it would be. Recommended to all music lovers!

Inspiring
Inspired me to buy Akai Headrush - weird bloke but great entertainer and music - watch him on you tube, expecially Jools Holland bit.
