Pollock retrospective
On the whole interesting and well narrated, providing a well-rounded basic over-view of the life and work of Jackson Pollock. It's age (1992) affords the ever diminishing luxury of including a range of first-hand supportive interviews to bring the source material to life, adding both weight and interest. However, with a brief running time the depth of the exploration of Pollock as subject and his key works was sadly lacking, and as such it does not have as much to offer those with a good working knowledge of Pollock as would be wished for. Overall, an easy and enjoyable watch but lacking staisfaction in terms of depth.

Jackson Pollock, not so much action.
This dvd is I believe may have originated from a South Bank show special by Melvyn Bragg, hence quality is quite reasonable. The highlight is interview footage of Elaine De Kooning in her studio, some of her last great works can be seen in the background. Sadly there is a distinct lack of good interview footage with Lee Krasner, which is a great shame. Yet there are enough other interviews with various Pollock associates to keep things interesting. Plus the footage of Pollock in action at his home. The film is general is a good overview of Pollock and his life, yet feels a little dated, slow at times and lacks some depth. Mainly worth buying for the interviews.

AB EX the wyoming wonder
Intense intimate direct all over art in arrested moment of the energetic flamboyant purpose filled flings.A surfeit of emotional energy in controlled abandonment of space & time 'living the moment of the unconscious unwrapped, revealed, in a harmony of the whole dip and thrown,a vibrant eclectic frantic vigour at a fresco scale in giant closeup a horizontal becomes a mural.Sadly, until inspiration evaporated into the ephemera of selfdoubt. This excellent dvd traces this riveting game changing art story, complimented. by contemporary eye witness evidential accounts and observations inc the 'I am nature' subject himself in audio extracts and a unique photo shoot of Pollocks technique from below,as we get a realtime understanding of it being 'merely a means of arriving at a statement' as Jackson oft explained.

A helpful look at Abstract Expressionism
This is a helpful video to explain Pollock's work. I think it goes far in helping us understand why Pollock's painting is art, not just splatters. The video quality was a bit low, and the eighties beginning was a bit tacky. But overall a worthwhile, helpful DVD.
