It Will Change Your Life, If You Let It.
The Food Psych Podcast was life changing for me. After DECADES of dieting , etc. I stumbled upon the podcast through a series of other podcast interviews/ guests and found it. At first, I was a little " hot under the collar"- the premise of HAES flies in the face of everything I'd been taught and advertised about how to "look good, be happy, healthy and well" But after a lot of self honesty, I realized that I had been played by diet culture and had totally stopped listening to my body and intuition. It's taken me a few years to get to where I am but I believe that (or I hope that) I am a better person, partner, parent and global citizen because I don't engage with diet culture any more. In fact, I actively speak out against it and all of its sneaky forms to anyone who asks.Admittedly, I have been (and still am) insulated by thin privilege, but I promise that this work (Intuitive Eating and eschewing diet culture) will change your life, whatever body size you are in. This book is a great companion to the other HAES/ Intuitive Eating Books out there. It is well-researched and well-edited. I respectfully disagree with the other reviewer who thought the book was too broad and too dense. I think that is a great appeal of this work. The book includes necessary (albeit dense) information, history, research data interpretation. It's so helpful for people who don't have an advanced science degree or time to go through thousands of nutritional studies and extrapolate the data. Speaking of research- actual scientific research supports a HAES approach to living. As for the colorful language, it's in line with the author's actual voice (as is evident each podcast episode). In this book, there isn't very much "language". And if you're offended by that, you should be even more offended by the harm our entire society is being subjected to everyday through the institution of diet culture and all of its forms of oppression. Health At Every Size really is a social justice issue. This is a great tool to give to people who ask "do you eat keto/paleo/blah blah blah?". You can say "I don't diet. I listen to my body and respect her/his/their needs. Here, read this!" I also listened to the Audible of this book and found it delightful! It's a wonderful alternative to someone who may be intimidated by the content, has a decent commute, or likes to multitask. Cheers to a life well and fully lived!

Heavy on science, should be required reading
This should be required reading. For someone who is science-hungry like me, this book ticked all of the boxes. There are extensively cited sources, and the author really breaks down the problems with much of the science around dieting and weight loss (such as poorly structured studies, compromised scientists, incomplete understanding of results, and more). I found this to be strongly based in reality, fact, and science, and as a former journalist, Harrison really goes full investigative reporter. And this is NECESSARY, because it is extremely hard for even believers of the anti-diet movement and Health at Every Size to get past conventional wisdom and what we've been told for years and years. You really need a powerful set of facts to get past the concept of "high weight = unhealthy," and I felt Harrison accomplished that. The book focuses on dismantling diet culture - the Life Thief - and nicely ties in a lot of concepts along the way, including that weight stigma actually harms your health more than your weight, and the fallibility of so much of the generally accepted science. Harrison also devotes several chapters to the concept of "OK, I no longer believe in diets - now what do I do?", which I also found extremely helpful and necessary, because it can be really hard to live rule-free around food, activity, and body image when you are used to structure and rules for decades and decades.I found this book to be an emotional read because of my own history and ongoing recovery, but felt very empowered, satisfied, and inspired. It's well-written, well-researched, and well-intended, and I'm so glad I read it! I'd highly recommend it for anyone wanting to learn more about anti-dieting, Health at Every Size, or because you just want more science and knowledge.

A life changing book!
This book was very impactful. It provides researched backed explanations on how diet culture can be harmful and encourages readers to challenge their own beliefs around food. It supports body neutrality and explains where the roots of diet culture come from which was very eye opening. Overall a great book- highly recommend for everyone.

A page turning history of diet culture
This is an excellent investigative reporting on diet culture. As other reviewers have noted, the subtitle is misleading and thus it definitely is not a guide on intuitive eating (see the original book Intuitive Eating for that excellent material!) Absent from the book was a cogent discussion of how the pornography industry contributes to unrealistic body image and objectification of women’s bodies which would strengthen her arguments for how diet culture manifested. Also I found it somewhat distracting and unnecessary to use strange abbreviations to describe men and women. You don’t assign biological sex at birth. You’re born a girl or a boy.

Anti-Diet
I would highly recommend this book to anyone that has ever suffered from disordered eating. I consider myself to be “recovered”, although I think you can’t really ever fully recover from an ED. There were so many times in this book where I though to myself that I thought I was the only one that went through that, or I would never have thought about the view point etc. Overall, Christy made this book enjoyable and easy to read.
