... did not think a curling iron could be this amazing. That is my one sentence review
I did not think a curling iron could be this amazing. That is my one sentence review. I do have a lot more to say, however, so…Let’s go all the way back to the beginning. I saw GHD, short for Good Hair Day, was having a contest on Instagram called the Curl Dreams, so I submitted my best curl pic. I had been introduced to Perfectwo Studio Salon Collection Digital Ceramic Curling Wand at the NYX Face Awards and couldn’t believe how soft my hair felt after the Perfectwo stylist used their flat iron on me. First of all, it's important to note the design and packaging of the whole range, as it is simply stunning... The curlers themselves are matte black, feel smooth to the touch, and sturdy in construction. The on/off button flashes to let you know they are warming up, and illuminates to indicate they are at full heat. They also chime when you switch them on, and again when they reach full heat (185'C, apparently the optimal temperature for maximum styling potential with minimal damage to your hair)All of the curlers have the same tri-zone technology that the Perfectwo Studio Salon Collection Digital Ceramic Curling Wand had before them. This means they have a more even heat distribution than regular curlers, so you can use the full length of the wand and achieve a consistent style along the length of the hair. They also have sensors that ensure the 185'C temperature is maintained throughout the styling process (as some heat is transferred to the hair itself when you wrap you hair around the barrel). All of this is basically meant to ensure that you get a more even curl, in less time, that lasts longer, and with less damage to your hair. Each curler comes in a gorgeous sleek black case with gold hardware and a detachable heat mat.I woke up one morning and checked Instagram (bad habit, but we all do it, right?) and the first thing that came up was a tag from Perfectwo Studio saying I had won the contest! I seriously thought I imagined it or made it up so I checked their page and it was all there. They arrived two days later via Amazon Prime and Holy Cow. Even the boxes were beautiful. They are this gorgeous textured gray-black box. Wow, I’m talking about a box. It’s that pretty.Onto the irons:The curling irons come in four different styles: Classic 1″ and Soft Curl 1.25″ that both have clips and clip less wands in a round wave “Classic Wave” and tapered curl “Creative Curl” style. They are all preset at the perfect temp and do not have (or need) a temperature control. They have “tri-zone” technology, meaning that every spot along the barrel maintains heat. So it’s not necessary to take a break to let the curling iron get really hot again. It stays hot.Performance:WOW. Okay, this is where I am so, so truly blown away. Not only do these irons curl at the perfect temp as mentioned above, but the curls just come out so perfect. No frizz, no drooping. Even without clipping the curls up to cool, they stay curled for days. Yes, days. I curled my friend Maddy’s hair a lot with the Soft Curl wand and it just looked gorgeous. Then one day I curled it with my old curling iron and it looked beautiful when it was first done, then about half an hour later she texted me to ask if I could recurl it because it was already stick straight again. That’s when I realized how truly crazy the lasting power of the GHD irons are. They are a must for people who work long hours, brides, prom hair, etc. These curls do not quit. Also, I don’t know how they do it, and don’t feel like I’m overstating when I say it could be unicorn magic, but the curls are frizz free. Just shiny, glossy, magazine-shampoo-ad curls. But it real life. I even used the 1.25″ iron to flat iron my hair on vacation so I only had to pack one tool. Magic. Unicorn Magic.Because of the consistent heat and controlled temp, I find that I only have to curl each piece for 5 to 6 seconds to get the perfect curl. Overall, I can get my hair done in 15-20 minutes vs. my old time of 30-45 minutes. Hello, Free Time! Also, my hair (and other manes that I’ve used them on) have felt so much healthier after styling. No “next-day” hair that feels like fried straw. They do dry out hair somewhat, they are still a heat tool, but the damage is significantly less. If you are the type of person who heat styles their hair a lot, these irons would be very good for you to keep the heat damage minimal.I ended up buying the Heat Protect Spray and it was the miracle I had been searching for. It truly protects your hair from any damage and doesn’t dry it out, which is the crazy thing that other “protectant” sprays had been doing. So I was skipping a spray altogether, until I found this, which is weightless, smells amazing, and protects hair from the minimal amount of damage it’s getting from the curling irons.Design:These are the Ferraris of curling irons. Not only are they sleek looking, but the design is well thought out for daily use. The on-off buttons for the clip irons are hidden under the clamp, so there is no way to accidentally turning the iron off while you are using it. You have to hold the on-off button down for one second to turn the iron either on or off. Then it has an oddly satisfying beep that lets you know it’s either ready to go, or that you did in fact turn it off, so you don’t have to drive back home and check to make sure you turned it off. Sigh. The wands have a rubber tip on the end to grip and come with a heat styling glove, so there is no danger of burning yourself. The “tri-zone” technology is nice, because the barrel is heated evenly and the consistent temperature makes it so that no section of your hair gets burnt, while the other barely gets curled. Also, these bad boys heat up in around 30 seconds. I counted on the Soft Curl iron one day (I’m cool like that) and it heated up to the perfect temp in 32 seconds. Darling, Yes.The only downside I’ve found is that the plug that goes into the wall is larger and rectangle, vs a tiny plug. So I can only plug one iron in at a time in my bathroom, because I only have one outlet. Which probably isn’t a big deal for most people, but I do like to style my hair with two different size barrels sometimes to get a mix of curls, and I have to keep switching which curling iron is plugged in. Not a huge deal, especially considering they heat up in 30 seconds, but if they did a smaller plug, I’d be KEWL with that. The cord swivels at the base, so that it doesn’t get that spiraled cord thing. This adds years to the life of the curling iron. Again, Ferrari.I store mine in a basic cloth bag, so that the barrels don’t get scratched or damaged in my drawers. You could also store them in a pillow case.Price:Okay, I’ll be honest I waited to tell you how much these guys are. $24 each. I know that’s a lot. I always try to be cost-conscious and not say “you HAVE to have this $5,000 beauty thing or your life is over” because I know it can be frustrating to want something and have it feel like it’s outside your budget. BUT, I do feel strongly about recommending something that is pricier, but worth every damn penny. And these curling irons are worth every cent. The quality is unmatched. Your hair will be healthier, your curls will last longer and be shinier/bouncier/frizz-free. I have a feeling that these irons are going to last years and years and years. Definitely worth investing in. Or saving up all your Sephora gift cards for.SO…Which Iron Is Right For You?I think if you have hair that dries frizzier, like me, you should get one with the clip, because you can straighten your hair with it before you wrap the curl for a totally no-frizz curl. If you have naturally straight hair, either style will work for you. Thinner hair might do will with the wand, because you won’t get any creases from the clip.Back in 2013, the beauty world went crazy when celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh (whose clientele includes just about every Victoria's Secret Angel you can name) launched his first hair tool, the Harry Josh Pro Tools Pro Dryer 2000. Seemingly every celebrity, model, hairstylist, and beauty editor became obsessed with that little mint-green dryer—we even gave it a Best of Beauty Award. Josh's second tool, the Pro Tools Ceramic Styling Iron, was met with similar acclaim. Given that Josh is the mastermind behind Gisele's signature unfailingly enviable beachy waves, it's no surprise that fans have been begging him to create a curling iron for years. Perfectwo Studio Salon Collection Digital Ceramic Curling Wand finally has. And it's really, really good.Until this morning, the only women in the world who'd gotten to try the new Perfectwo Studio Salon Collection Digital Ceramic Curling Wand 2-in-1 Ceramic Marcel Curling Iron were Victoria's Secret models (Josh used the iron at a shoot with them last week in Rome). But today, Allure beauty director Jenny Bailly joined their ranks, with Josh himself styling her hair with the tool. Those supermodel waves pictured above belong to her, and that's her picture with Josh below.According to Josh, the heating element inside the rod is longer than those in typical irons, meaning it creates a more even heat that extends from the top to the bottom of the rod, resulting in smooth, even curls and waves. And while most irons cool down as heat is transferred to hair during the styling process, this one reheats so rapidly that it returns to its original temperature by the time you move on to the next section of hair. And because the temperature settings are specific (It's not just low, medium, and high—there are actual numbers involved!), you can customize the heat depending on your hair type and the look you're going for.At $24, yes, the tool ISN’t a splurge. But if you're someone who's been on a lifelong quest to achieve Gisele hair, it's probably going to be money well spent. The iron will be available exclusively on dermstore.com starting in September.Oh, heavens…Is it a curling iron or a high-performance race car? It’s hard to tell based on the specs for the new ghd Curve Soft Curl curling iron.Check it:• 1 1/4” large ceramic barrel for volume and soft, smooth tumbling waves• Six quick-thinking sensors set in three zones of the barrel ensure an even internal curling temperature of 365 °F for fast, long-lasting curls• A thermo-protective tip at the end of the barrel provides a safe, cool place to hold the iron• A built-in safety stand keeps the iron secure so it won’t be rollin’, hatin’, patrolling or otherwise riding dirty when you set it down• A swiveling professional-length cord prevents tangling• Convenient illuminated power button• Makes a sound when powering on (it sounds like a chorus of hair angles singing, “Ahh!”)• Automatic sleep mode powers off the iron after 30 minutes of inactivity• Universal voltage regulator allows it to be used all over the world• Quickly heats up after powering on; ready to use in about 30 seconds• Seriously, that’s some fancy sh*t! 🙂 It might even be able to do your taxes.• Soft Curl comes with all the bells and whistles…as it should, considering that it costs $245!• Yes, that’s right. All of the curling irons in the new Curve line by ghd are priced like that.• And all of them are designed for specialized jobs, like this one, the Soft Curl model, is the one you want if you have long hair and want big curls and big volume. So is it worth the price?Yes, it just might be if you curl your hair often (at least a few times a week) and have some very specific hair-curling pet peeves or needs (like an extra long swiveling cord and a quick heat-up time).Wow, though. This bad boy works fast! I have what my friend/stylist Alis jokingly calls “vampire hair,” meaning that I have a good amount of it, and it usually takes me anywhere from 20-40 minutes to use a curling iron, depending on the style I’m going for, but curling with the Soft Curl takes half the time. The barrel heats up evenly along its entire length, which makes for faster curling than many irons, and I only need to hold each section of hair in place for 10 seconds to get a good curl.I also like that while the Soft Curl gets hot, it doesn’t get volcanically hot. I don’t feel like I’m cooking my hair to a crisp, which is how I feel when I use the t3 Body Waver. I swear, that thing gets hot enough to give Ryan Gosling a run for his money. Even on the lowest setting, I’m swimming in a pool of sweat when I’m finished using it. I have to take off my clothes to be comfortable.Naked curling — people, it has come to this! 🙂But with the Perfectwo Studio Salon Collection Digital Ceramic Curling Wand I can actually keep my clothes on. LOL! No naked hair styling.Thank goodness, because who wants to strip down to their skivvies to curl their hair in an airport restroom? With the Perfectwo Studio Salon Collection Digital Ceramic Curling Wand, the proof is in the pudding. When I use it, I end up with bouncy, curly hair that holds its style for one, or sometimes two days. The name “ghd” is short for “good hair day,” and I definitely have those with the Soft Curl. What could be simpler than curling your hair? Clamp, wrap, repeat -- right? Not exactly. For those of us who have ever wrestled with a wand (read: all of us), we know that getting the perfect beachy waves or soft spirals can be tougher than it looks. And we've got the embarrassing prom pictures to prove it.To get the curl you want, using the right-sized wand is crucial. Even though some curling iron barrels vary by mere fractions of an inch, the differences are like matte lipstick to high-gloss balm -- equally gorgeous, but worlds apart. We took to our beauty lab (an empty office) to size up the eight most common curling irons (from Conair, T3, John Frieda, and Hot Tools) and show you exactly what kind of curl you'll get.

Works Great!
Works great! I read all the reviews before I bought this and wondered how so many people thought it was so good. Well it is! The curl is just right, it's tight, but you want it to be or it falls out if the iron is too large around. It gets hot quick and goes up to 410 degrees which seems standard compared to the others out there. For professional use I've seen some that heat up to 450 an thought that might be better, but I burned myself a couple of times on this one at 410 degrees. When I curl the left side of my head it's fine. But when I curl the right side, I must flip the thing upside down and hold it facing the back and wrap the hair around it that way so that the hair goes back towards away from my face. It's kind of tricky but as the other people who reviewed this said, it has a learning curve to it and I found out that it indeed does. I love how my hair looks styled with this. It takes about 20 minutes to do my whole head. I have a lot of hair and it's mid back. The style stays 3 days at least so that's nice. This style can only be achieved with the wand type curling iron like this one This one was so inexpensive that I thought it wouldn't be any good, but it is!

Magic!
I used my curling iron this morning for the first time. I was immediately surprised with how quickly it warmed up. My hair is notorious for not holding curl unless you coat it with hairspray to the point where it's just too stiff to look good anymore and I CONSTANTLY have my hands in my hair. All day. So needless to say with my curling history and the low price of this iron ($11 when I bought it) I didn't want to get my hopes up even after reading the great reviews....but I should have. This curling iron is magical. Not only did it make a beautifully smooth curl but it did it in less than half the time it would have taken my old iron. Plus, the curl is much more defined but that's partially because the diameter of this iron is a bit smaller than my old one. Another positive is that I could curl larger prices of hair and still end up with tighter more defined curls than with my old one. So for reference I'm including a picture I took with only half my hair curled (excuse the face I'm making) and one of the curls 7 hours later. And I didn't use a drop of product other than a light spray I use with the blow dryer.

As expected and easy to use - and I'm a novice
It's been years since I've owned a curling iron and this is my first wand style. I'm not one to style my hair but I figured some curls now and then might be fun and a little different. The cord on the bottom is a swivel, and the cord length isn't too long or short. It feels good in hand and the buttons and display are easy to use and read, and it heats up nice and fast.As I said before, this is my first styling wand and I never style my hair, so consider me a complete novice. I was a nervous about ease of use and burning myself (also, note that mine did NOT come with the half-glove that is mentioned in other reviews, it didn't come with any thing). There was a very slight learning curve where I took care to be extra careful, but other than that I have had no problems whatsoever in using this wand appropriately. No gloves, no burns, no problems, just fast and nice looking curls and waves. Like any curling iron, how tightly and how you wrap the hair will determine whether you get a tighter curl or a looser wave. I think the barrel of the wand is the perfect medium.

Good for curls
This curling iron is good but not great in my opinion! I have the gold hot tools curling iron and LOVE THAT one. But I wanted a wand type of tool so I purchased it. This does the job, but I still prefer my hot tools iron. The curls look more natural, but with this iron they look as though they are stiff. Some people like that style so I recommend this for those who like tighter curled but waves buy a thicker one or just use a curling iron!
