Dolly Bureau: Doll Patterns and Fashion Paperback – June 7, 2013

Excellent book! Easy patterns for every sewing level of experience. Includes a great guide comparing side by side height and measurements of various dolls.

If you sew for your dolls, you NEED this book!! Particularly 1/6 scale dolls, which are not well represented in the sewing pattern world. I set to sewing the leggings the moment the book arrived and they are fantastic. I can't wait to sew all the pieces!!

Nice that there are several different sizes of patterns for BJDs here. Hope to try them all out very soon.

Wish it had offered more patterns, but this is a good book for those that have BJDs to dress from less than 9" to about 16" tall. Best part are the color pictures showing different dolls wearing the same garments. Some other dolls, such as Barbie type, J-Doll and Ellowyne Wilde can wear clothing made from the right size of patterns in this book, although from a test pattern I tried on one doll a garment was also supposed to fit, required a little adjustment to make a perfect fit. Those that collect and dress Momoko and Pullip dolls will be happy to find patterns with instructions in English. Hope to see more from this author--especially for Momoko and Jun Planning dolls.

I just got this book so I haven't tried any of the patterns. Usually I think you should make some of the patterns before writing a review, but I do have some comments that I think might be helpful for those who are debating about buying this book.First of all, I have to say I love that the book has matte paper instead of glossy paper. It makes it so much easier to read. Usually I find it hard to read print on coloured paper, but in this case the instructions that are printed on a green background have enough contrast to make reading easy. These may seem like nitpicking comments, but for those of us whose eyesight isn't 100% these things are important.The first part of the book has full-page, clear photos of the outfits on dolls such as Momoko, Mattel's Model Muse, Poppy Parker, Ken, Tiny Betsy McCall, Pullip, BJDs, etc.The patterns are 100% so no need to enlarge them, and the pattern section starts off with a very explicit hoodie tutorial with clear colour photos. There is also a section with photos and drawings, explaining basic terminology, the equipment needed, and how to make different types of closures.Without having actually made any of the outfits, I still feel that the patterns and instructions look clear enough for a beginner seamstress to be confident about making the outfits. At the same time they are interesting and sophisticated enough to appeal to all levels of expertise.I can only hope that Ms. Zabel will continue with more pattern books.

For the more grown up doll collector e.g. ball jointed type. Very trendy patterns and clear instructions.My 22 year old daughter loved it.
