How does the 3000 compare to the 4000

This is an older question, but wanted to add one significant difference that hasn't been touched on: the shaft lock.

The 3000 shaft lock uses a pin that engages only a tiny bit with a hole in the shaft.  The design is relatively weak due to the small amount of engagement, and doesn't allow you to get the collet very tight.  This leaves you with either tools that can spin if you're trying to do work where there's any significant resistance, or a damaged shaft lock pin if you try to get the collet tight enough.  The pin can be replaced, but you're just putting in a new pin with the same poor design.

On the 4000, the shaft lock actually uses a gear on the shaft and a tapered pin that gets good engagement on that gear to lock the shaft for tool changes.  This allows you to get the collet much more snug without the risk of damaging the shaft lock mechanism.  It's a far better design.

This alone makes it worth the extra few bucks for the 4000, in my opinion.  You're investing in a tool with a much more robust design.

Which sanding bands on Amazon fit the dremel 3000? And is this dremel good for triming dogs toenails?

It really depends on what you are used it for. I have not used it much other than wood trimming and is a great tool for that. The sanding bands that came with would have been sufficient for me except i did have to purchase some extra sanding bands. As far as trimming dos toe nails I have purchased a electric dog toe nail clipper and it was just a dremel tool itself with a shield around. My dog don't like either so i have it done at the vets office. Sorry, hopefully this helps somewhat.

Can it be used to engrave names etc into wood?

Yes, it can be used for engraving. If you go to the Dremel website or u tube you can see videos on all the different things one can do.

Question 4

What flex attachment works with this model? The only one sold on Amazon lists several model numbers, but 3000 isn't one of them.
