Lovely!
Just purchased this item and what a stunning piece of craftsmanship it is! It looks so beautiful on the counter I almost don't want to use it. This would be a great gift for any coffee lover (gave it to my husband as an early birthday gift....he LOVED it) I've read that processing your coffee with cold water is a healthier option ( although you can also use hot water to brew with this device), so we'll be making good use of this little gem.

Excellent cross between a french press and a pour over ...
Excellent cross between a french press and a pour over apparatus! Want a pour over? Use a paper filter and keep the stop cock open. Want a french press? Use the metal filter and keep stock cock closed while it steeps. This coffee apparatus gives you the chance to tailor times and extraction to where you want it in a simple chemistry set-up!Only real drawback I can find is that it can't really make more than two cups at once. But if you know and understand that limitation, 5 stars. The seller resolved a minor issue incredibly fast. So rest assured, if something does go wrong with your order, which is unlikely, it will be solved in no time!Good luck and make sure to enjoy the coffee!

Poor coffee quality
Unstable parts. The top didn't fit the pot. No instructions. Poor coffee quality. returned.

Functionally Lacking.
The only way I can describe this item is functionally lacking. I have the misfortune of spending over $100 for this with the intention of using it as a cold brew maker. The filter sits atop the bronze-colored metal arm and is set by a couple pieces of rubber. The setting on which the filter sits on the arm is simply not strong or snug enough to hold the product while in use. The metal arm separates, with the weight of the liquid frequently causing the product to lean over a bit and spill out the coffee.Furthermore, the wood had began to warp a few months after purchasing. It is near my sink so it is exposed to some water. Just keep in mind that the wood is not likely treated so be careful when cleaning the product

Makes good coffee
Fun device. We were disappointed that it did not come with instructions. It would have been helpful because normal pourovers are measured out by weight. We don't know how to make it correctly. There are videos online, but it would have been nice to have written guidelines.

Stopcock issues, but worth it.
Looks great. Makes delicious cold brewed coffee. My only complaint, thus 4 instead of 5 stars, is that the stopcock, the part that is supposed to "stop" the infusing coffee from coming out doesn't work. The seller was kind enough to send me a replacement. The second stopcock works better than the first but it still drips even when the knob is turned to close. It's a very slow drip, slow enough that I don't feel the need or have the desire to request a third, new stopcock.

Unless you've perfected your favorite ratios for the same coffee you're most likely experiencing ...
Unless you've perfected your favorite ratios for the same coffee you're most likely experiencing variations in your cup when using a traditional pour-over method. The Yama greatly increases your chances of a high-quality cup every time because of it's valve feature which allows for full submersion of the water and coffee. I've used every machine from a drip brewer, to Chemex, to the V60, to siphon and the Yama is the best yet. It's one of the most expensive single cup brewers but it's worth every penny.
