Inside toy for the thinking dogs
I needed an inside toy for my border collie mix and this fit the bill. Takes a little bit of work and is super engaging for your fur friends.

Dogs love this
My 4 dogs are now obsessed with their 'puzzles'. I've bought I total of like 4 or 5 different ones now, but we started with this design, which I highly recommend. It's a great starter puzzle for all sizes and ages of dogs. The only negative I found is, it's made of a type of corregated or pressed cardboard. So once 2 dogs with fairly wet noses have done this puzzle, I have to wipe it down and leave all the sliding pieces in the middle so everything can air dry. But it's really not that big of a deal, I love this puzzle and my dogs love it even more. I simply use their own dog food in it either as a treat or a way to give a fast eater their dinner. My dogs caught on extremely fast when starting with this puzzle. The only other downside is that on wood floors or tile it will slide around if you aren't holding it for the dog. At first, I would just put this on their silicone food mat so it wouldn't slide around. Then I decided to add little round texture grips to the bottom of the puzzle which have worked perfectly.

My collie's favorite!
I spotted this "SPOT Ethical Pet Interactive Seek-A-Treat Shuffle Bone Toy Puzzle" (that's quite a name . . . we just call it "Puzzle") thanks to one of my collie-group friends on Facebook, and decided to order one for my boy Silver for his eleventh birthday last October. I can't say it provided any challenge to his I.Q., since he simply looked at it for a second or two and then immediately knew how to work it. (One or two earlier reviewers mentioned what a success it is with their rabbits, and . . . well . . . if a rabbit can figure it out, how could it possibly be much of a challenge to a COLLIE? LOL) But I have to say he absolutely LOVED it from the first moment he tried it! I load it with shredded cheddar cheese and bits of roast beef, and it instantly became one of his morning highlights each day. . . . I will say this, however, regarding its cleaning. This product seems to be made of a rather sturdy compressed wood (although I agree: as with any toy, keep an eye on your dog whenever he's in contact with it, since it theoretically could come apart with chewing), but over time one or two of its sliding disks grew more difficult to move back and forth. Eventually I decided to wash it, or at least rinse it off, but its compressed wood seemed to absorb the water and this only made the problem worse. The disks became truly stuck in place, and broke apart when I tried to ply them loose. But since Silver would have been heartbroken to lose his "Puzzle," I immediately ordered a duplicate replacement from Amazon. So he continues to enjoy his "Puzzle" each and every morning! For the price, this is a wonderful "toy" . . . just be sure to supervise your pet as he or she uses it, and try not to get it wet should you need to clean it.

A few flaws
I've been intrigued with the idea of a dog puzzle since first setting eyes on a Nina Ottoson version online. However, I didn't know if my dogs (who are treat motivated but a bit "lazy") would find enjoyment with them, and it was a lot of money to spend on something untested. So when the link for this very affordable alternative popped up, I decided to give it a try. As others may have pointed out, the concept is similar to Ottoson's Brick Puzzle. When it arrived, I was pleased to find it of substantial weight. My dogs have yet to slide it around during their explorations. The little space beneath each round is deep enough to hold all but the bulkiest of treats: liver snaps, Puporoni, Kona jerky. There are, however, some "flaws." First, while the little rounds do slide rather easily, they sometimes catch a bit when they're bumped up to the edge of the slots. With only that tiny hole on top and a very smooth finish (as is common with compressed wood products), there's very little for my dogs to get traction with (using either their paws or noses) to move the circles. I believe Ottoson's Brick toy specifically has a shallow groove on top of each "brick" just for this purpose. I wish this toy did as well. Perhaps more determined dogs with a strong digging sense or just stronger noses and paws can work it loose, but mine struggle. If I push the round a little away from the edge...just enough to give it a couple mm of lip, they open it without any problems, but they'll often bump it close while exploring and leave it in frustration when they can't get the circle to move. But the most distressing flaw this toy has are the incredibly sharp edges. I was trying to rub a bit of wax along the tracks to provide a smoother glide when I sliced open a knuckle on the edge. They're super sharp. With mine, it hasn't been an issue b/c my dogs' muzzles are so small that they don't touch the edge when grabbing their treats, but I can easily see a larger or more enthusiastic dog cutting themselves badly. I'll probably stick on some fuzzy velcro tabs or hot glue a small button on top of each tab to give the girls something to grab at. It's still an affordable alternative. Just be careful. Because of those sharp edges, I wouldn't recommend for frenzied eaters due to the high probability of injury. UPDATE: After a few more weeks, my dog got better at moving the pieces around, so I decided to upload a vid. As you can see, there are times when she does the right thing and would have moved the piece if she could get better traction with her nose. Still, she enjoys playing, though it now takes her less than 2 minutes to solve. I'll probably buy a few more games to keep her challenged.

My cat loves it -
Pro: For cats veering towards chunky, these challenge toys are great. Target cat figured it out in a flash and loves searching for treats every night. Another figured it out but has her own, different challenge treat dispenser for all meals, while another never showed interest. Con NB: Dry food only, of course, and don’t rinse/wash; just wipe out. It’s not wood but some kind of particle board (i.e. involving glue that you don’t want to leach). When I first tried rinsing the slightly messy dispenser under the tap, it swelled up and developed mold, even though I wiped and left it to air dry for days. I got a replacement which I just shake out and wipe.

A mi perro le encanta, sólo que si no cuido el juguete se astilla porque es frágil ante las mordidas, sin embargo me parece muy bueno para estimular la mente de tu mejor amigo

My pup loves this game. It's well made, good durability for toughness and sturdiness is also good for an 8 month old lab.

Puzzle moyen, le concept est pas mal mais mon chiot le vide en 3 minutes et le bois n'est pas solide et le mien fait déjà des copeaux.

I have a 5 year old shitzu and I wasn’t sure when we ordered if he would be able to complete the puzzle. Within 10 minutes he had it figured out and he keeps coming back for more! He did need a lot of reassurance and support initially, just be patient. Great way to bond and stimulate your pets mind. Very happy with the quality, durable and easy to clean.
