Creative, good for travel, fun, my 5 year old can put it together.
This lego set consists of a small plastic box which you can build a scene -- in this case a music studio -- using legos and stickers. The case is thin plastic and doesn't have a very high quality feel. It is hinged so you can open and close it, and the closure is a lego that you connect together so it does stay closed during travel. It will connect with cases from other set for display and to encourage people to purchase additional sets, so this appeals to you the only real decision is which theme you want. This set includes the Andrew doll which you put together, very cute and fun, and all the things you would need in a working music studio -- floor pieces, microphone, lights, speakers, stage, piano and stool etc. It has a total of 49 pieces and the pieces are interchangeable with other lego sets with the exclusion of the duplo sets, which are larger. The instructions are included are the typical lego illustrations that step you through construction. My 5 year old was able to assemble this on her own with the exception of needing help when applying the stickers. There is one "mystery" surprise pet. It seems like all toy manufacturers are trying to cash in on the popularity of the mystery toys, and lego is no exception. In our case we got a cute gold bird. Can't really tell what kind of bird, it looks like a small parrot, but I like to think it is a canary. I think all the mystery pets are the same for each set just different colors but why ruin the fun for a kid.I feel like the price point is about right for what you get.

Cute little box. My surprise pet was a purple bird.
This is a cute little set for your little Lego fan/musician/pop star. I like that the set is self-contained (should you choose to build it that way); you can open it up and have two separate musical vignettes or one split scene for Andrea and her friend(s). The stickers are a little inconvenient to apply to the inside of the cube with my paws, but you may have more dexterity and more luck in that arena. I would have loved a guitar piece, but maybe that's greedy on top of the little piano. And, despite all of the stickers, the piano is a printed piece! My surprise pet is a purple bird with metallic purple feathers around the eyes. The accent color with pink for the beak, feet and tips of the wings gives it a nice pop and looks nice. You can see the size of it in the picture next to a standard 2x2 brick (not from this set). It is the standard bird piece from Friends/Elves sets with a new look for this set.Andrea always comes with the bird. The surprise is which color. You can see the different animals that come in the different boxes in one of my pictures. Buy the set if you like the figure (mini-doll) and her play cube. Enjoy the pet, but please do not be disappointed with the one you get. I'm sure they're all equally fun. It is a fun add on that really has nothing to do with the rest of the set.

What a fun little gift for kids!
While this is ostensibly for girls, my son was totally jealous of my daughter's awesome little traveling Lego box, and totally wanted one for himself, so we picked out Andreas popstar play cube for him. What's cool about these boxes is that they have a little platform on both sides that you can put bricks on to kind of decorate the interior, then you can put the little platform onto the pips inside the box, and shut the box neatly. It makes for a great little travel thing, or a fun little vignette. We have a few of them, so in time we may end up making a cool little cube apartment in the Lego town that we have on a big low table in my sons room.I like how the box shuts carefully with a couple of pips, and I like all the accessories and the little animal that come with the mini figure, box, etc. My son was delighted with Andreas popstar look and the vivid golden color with purple for his box. This is a very easy build and my four-year-old has done two of them without any help.Overall this is a nice gift presentation and would make a fun birthday party gift.

Lego 41400: Friends: Andrea's Play Cube
Andrea’s Play Cube is centered around music. The tiny builds include a piano and a stage. Andrea’s main accessory is a gold-topped microphone. Her surprise pet is a canary, or maybe a songbird. It’s some type of bird. The “surprise” is just what color will be inside the fortune cookie envelope. The colors are gold, purple, blue, or pink. I’m happy that Lego included the same animal and made the color the surprise, or I could see people buying a bunch of Play Cubes just to get the animal their kids want. The entire build fits inside the Play Cube, which snaps shut. This way the Play Cube can be taken on the go, or played with anywhere, without the worry of losing parts.

Like Polly Pockets meets Lego!
Unsurprisingly, this tiny lego set was a huge hit with my 7-year-old. It's a little hinged box that you can decorate and arrange with legos, making a tiny portable environment for the tiny lego person and her tiny lego pet. Best of all, the legos stay corralled inside instead of straying all over the house to maim my feet, as with the larger lego sets (though YMMV depending on your kid).About the size (but blockier shape) of a juice box, it fits in a coat or backpack pocket for surreptitious play (she's already been admonished from taking it to school!).It's the perfect small gift for a child who loves both legos and miniatures (miniatures are the more key demographic, I think, since the building part is pretty minimal).

fits in a kid's purse **photos**
My youngest daughters love this little cube. It fits in their kid-sized purse (pic 01). It protrudes from front to back though due to its squared dimension. But not overly so to interfere with the purse's zipper. Such a great on-the-go Lego toy set. Since everything--from the Andrea doll to the accessories (i.e., piano, piano bench, stage, mic, bird)--all fits neatly & firmly (if all are pushed into the bottom brackets) in this little cube (see pic 01). So, when their in the car or waiting for an appointment in the waiting room, they can take this out of their purse and play with it creatively. I love it from a storage standpoint. They love if for its portable-sized fun.Extremely recommeneded.
