My go-to swimsuit
Update: Still going strong with these briefs, but I do want to state that I ended up with one size larger than what I purchased (36 from 34). To tell the truth I did not heed my own advice: I did not properly measure my waist size before buying the smaller size. The difference with sizing up is having more coverage to your hips and groin. Compared to other briefs, I find this brand and model to be the most comfortable. It's snug and soft while the lining is the least abrasive. I prefer open water swimming and would bring these every time no matter the location. You still need to apply Vaseline or something similar for longer ocean swims because of the properties of salt water. Take the size chart seriously. Measure your waist and buy accordingly. It will feel tight but as the directions state, go into the water a couple times and it will stretch out to the appropriate fit. Side note: I bought these at my local sports store several years ago. Same 78% Eco Recycled Nylon and 22% Xtra Life Spandex marketing, but it was made in Vietnam instead of Sri Lanka. No discernable differences.

Keep in mind this is a race suit, despite the title
Speedo has always made a good product. The sizing chart, however, is for race suits, which are much tighter than a workout suit. I normally wear a 32 pant which means a 30 suit size. But this was far too tight on me for workouts. Again, would be great for a race suit you wear for just a few minutes, but not hours for a workout.

A nice suit for lap swimming, but advertised size is too small and too tight in legs
I have a stocky build. I've been wearing Speedos through the late 60's early 70's for racing and then later in the 70's playing water polo in university. Along the way Speedos instead of beach trunks were normal pool wear while lifeguarding. I still swim to keep my cardio up for other athletic activies and maintain mobility, and I'm still picky about swim suits intended to be primarily worn in the water swimming laps. I can't quite find a suit withthe fit of those suits back in the day any longer, but the cut of this suit will do. It is a bit more skin tight/compression than I prefer, but it will work for me at least. While it doesn't say it in the description (it should) this Speedo has a 3" wide side panel. I am normally a 36"/37" belt size in casual pants. I had to upsize to size 40 for this suit to fit comfortably, and it is still a bit too tight in the legs. I don't think you would need to have a stocky build to need to upsize above your normal pants size. If you have above average quads and glutes, whatever your build or belt size, you may also need to go up a size to avoid finding the legs are too tight. If how your pool suit looks when out of the water is important to you, this emerald blue is nice. I have no idea whether or not it is flattering from a fashion standpoint - I assume the primary purpose of buying a suit like this is to be in the pool swimming, not lounging on the deck. So far, next time I might look for something from Tyr or Arena, but I wouldn't mind buying this model of Speedo again. The reason I docked it one star is I don't think the sizing is true for North American men and it is just a little bit too tight through the legs and the body of the suit.

Excellent quality and fit.
I walk and/ or hike an average of 8 miles per day, and I use these exclusively. They provide the very best support, the fit perfectly, and when I walk to the beach, I’ve got a ready-to-go swimsuit. And on backcountry hikes of any duration, there’s simply nothing better.

Sizing is great, size 28 fits my 30" waist just fine.
I disagree strongly with all the reviewers who say the sizing is off. I swim competitively on a masters team and have a 30" waist and the size 28 fits me just fine. Competitive suits are SUPPOSED to fit tightly. Also, keep in mind these are made of lycra and are very stretchy so they do look rather small before you put them on. Furthermore, with prolonged exposure to chlorine, the suit loosens noticeably. As such, the size 28 gets too loose for me after a few months and I replace it with a new one. These don't last nearly as long as the Speedo Endurance Plus suits, but I find them to be far more comfortable so I keep buying these.

Tight fit!
Great quality but sizing is out. I’m 33 waist on a bad day but I couldn’t get these swim trunks over my thighs and I always avoid leg day on my workout

Hilariously too small
The Speedo size chart says that a size "36" is correct for someone with a 38 waist & 42 hips—which is exactly what I have (why they don't call that a "38" is mysterious to me). So that's what I ordered. & it was so tiny I could hardly pull it up over my thighs, let alone ever actually wear it. It wasn't just a skimpy design or cut. It really seemed to me to be a child's size—not just a little snug but at least 2 sizes too small. The box & the suit said "36," but I seriously doubt that anyone with a 36 waist could comfortably fit into it. I'd suggest buying the suit 2 sizes larger than you normally wear.

BUY YOUR WAIST SIZE
Material - great. Colour - vibrant. Comfort - snug. Reliable - Very. VERY IMPORTANT!!! JUST BUY your size. I spent about an hour trying to find a guide or a how to video about choosing the correct size. I combed through the reviews on amazon, went to other sites, browsed you tube. And after all of that I decide to play it safe and go with like 2 amazon reviews that suggested going a size or two up, just to make sure you butt, and your package fit. Terrible decision. I have a larger but than any guy I, and most girls I know. And the size that fit me and didnt have me worrying about flashing anyone was my actual size 33. IT'S SUPPOSED TO KEEP YOU PACKAGE COMPRESSED. ITs going to feel tight but thats just something you have to get use too for the style of clothing.

I've been swimming for decades, beginning when I was a minor. Throughout most of those years, I've almost always bought and worn Speedo briefs or trunks. The same goes for goggles too. From time to time, I've tried other brands, too. But in the end I've always gone back to the Speedo brand. That's because they simply manufacturer the best swimming gear, in my opinion. There gear just tends to be made up to a higher standard. If I had one major criticism, it is that this particular line of swimwear isn't readily available to UK customers. I checked the UK Speedo website, and they only sell a limited selection. This I cannot understand. Anyway, I saw these here on Amazon UK being sold via Amazon US at around 50% the price of the other sizes. I went for size 'L' (Large) because that's the size I wear, but thankfully that also happened to be the one which was half the price of the other sizes. Having tested these fantastic briefs out yesterday in the pool, I wish I'd bought two pairs now. I'm glad I went for 'L' as any smaller size would've been too small. They look fantastic, a great aquadynamic tight fit, decent coverage on the leg for a brief (about 3-4" or approximately 9cm), and great coverage at the back. The all black colour looks fantastic and the fabric feels good as well. On an average swim I'll swim 2 miles continuous front crawl (excluding warm up and cool down), and these just felt great in the water. It's early days however on their durability. I prefer the fit, look, and feel of these over Speedos 'Endurance' line, but whether these last as long remains to be seen. I just hope Speedo begin providing every available market with the 'PowerFlex' or 'PowerFlex ECO' (these ones) including here in the UK.
