Should I order small or medium for 40” chest?

I went for a medium as you want some space underneath for jumpers etc. as its going to be a winter coat, fits me fine.

I warmly welcome, No, Carhartt has not been producing anything in the USA anymore, for several years now, everything is produced in the East. Please feel free to purchase Best regards and have a nice day😊 Marcin

If I'm on the fatter side should I order my usual size of xl or will it be huge? Thanks.

Not sure if this helps. I take a L but bought M and it fits fine. Carharrt sizes come up to the maximum end of size range EG 42 TO 44 is nearer 44.

Is the jacket shower or water proof?

Definitely showerproof. It’s good quality canvas type material so it holds out water for a while. I’m sure it will get through eventually though it hasn’t done yet.
