Almost an enumeration do facts and events. Review: An articulate, demanding and pithy account - showing a fine historian’s balance. I loved the carefully argued reminder of the role that history plays in guiding us to a more constructive approach to the future.

Well written and calm factual account of this emotive subject. In particular describes the historical and geopolitical context of slavery throughput all human societies. Details GB’s role in slavery and in its unilateral decision to abolish the slave trade initially and then slavery altogether in the face of opposition from other international powers including African slave trading societies.

Easy to break down into time periods and very thorough. Slavery not as recent as most of us thought from school textbooks.
A**S
This book does an excellent job of summarizing the realms of slavery and slave trading that occurred across much of the globe for millennia. It helps greatly in understanding the exploitation and brutality that was so prevalent throughout the course of human history. On the down side, the author doesn't always do a very good job of communicating to a wide audience. He comes off a an academician who is communicating to other academicians.
