Very awkward
The first poor decision was to have the first person viewpoint that of a character who speaks and thinks poor old English. The second is to make this main character mostly unlikeable and quite racist. Without these two main problems, I would have been able to finish it despite its otherwise weak dialogue, prose and plot. As it was, I could only manage to get 1/4 of the way through.

Well.....
It was good enough to finish but I was very disappointed. It's hard to put my finger on what I really didn't like, but the entire book seemed to be lacking.....like our poor hero's intelligence. I never figured out if he was just thinking sarcastically or what his problem is. Also, his being a knight seems to be irrelevant, as he just tends to do whatever seems to be the worst choice available. I might grab book 2 anyway though, as I enjoyed the short excerpt better than all of book 1.

I kept reading waiting for it to get better and it never did. I read this a few minutes at a time during breaks and it never bothered me to go back to work. I never thought "Oh damn, just a couple more minutes so I can find out what happens next."
