"Changes" don't always mean "Improved"
This is the second one of these I have owned. I purchased this one because I have used the other for probably close to 10 years and have loved it but decided to put it on my garage when I purchased a new door for my house. It has worked perfectly for what I purchased it has been installed for close to 10 years on my house. This item looks identical to the old one (besides the word "Lockey" added to one side, but there are definite differences and disappointments. Maybe not an issue for some, but for the purpose I am using it for it doesn't work nearly as well. First noticable change.... on the old lock you could change the passcode to whatever 4 numbers you chose. Same function on the new lock...HOWEVER... On the new lock for example if the passcode is 1234... you now push "C" and then "Y" then 1234 to unlock the door. On the "old" lock... you would push "C" then 1234 and then "X" which would unlock the door. On the old lock if you wanted to use the "bypass" function you would hit "C" 1234 "X" and the "Y" key which would put the door on by-pass. Otherwise the lock would automatically lock once it was closed. This new lock can no longer do that. So if I clear the door and open it from the inside it will not lock again unless I hit the "Y" button on the inside of the door. It will automatocally unlock when the lever is opened. While this sounds like a good option in theory the other gave you the option of using by-pass or having the door locked at all times. You never had to worry about it not being locked or forgetting to lock it. You do have the option to disable the "by-pass by removing a tumbler from the "Y" postition but than you can no longer use the "by-pass" function ever. The old way allowed you to easily rotate between using by-pass or locked with just the push of a button. There seems to be no function now for the "X" or "Z" buttons on the lock which seem to now be just additional keys. I am extremely disappointed in the changes with the lock as the other lock has worked perfectly. And the reason I made this purchase. The only reason for replacing it was that I had purchased a new door and loved the lock so much that I plan to put the other on my garage and use this on my house. Also... installing this one seemed much more difficult than the first. Lining up the screw with the rubber plate was difficult and took some finagling. For my purpose I am not sure what I will do...It is beyond the date that I can return it and I love the lock but it's function is not what it was. For the amount of money these cost I would have expected equal quality. Change is not always for the better. I hope it holds up as well as my first one. I live in a 4 season climate and even had weather with -50 below wind chill and it has never failed. The other personal challenge for me is going to be to remember one is maneuvered one way and the other differently.Update** changed my review to **** (4) stars. After using this lock a few times I realized that it is actually easier to open-- instead of the other way-- you simply use the "Y" then "C" button to open without bypass or the "C" then "Y" to set the bypass before the number. Actually much easier to remember just had to retrain my brain a bit. It does make it a little more confusing as I used my old on my garage. Lol So far I haven't had any issues with it and I hope that it holds up as well as my last one which is still going strong on the garage. I would definitely recommend. I live in a climate with all kinds of weather all the way down to -50 below F wind chill. My first one has not failed. I expect this will be the same.Update 4/21: Made it through the winter with no problems. Works as it should. Both locks are working perfectly. I have finally gotten the codes down and have less issue remembering them. Lol I would definitely buy these again.

Love the handle, also WHITE/BLACK is easy to read. Best lock for my backyard gate!
I spent hours looking for something like this on Amazon and elsewhere, including companies specializing in keypad locks. This product was well worth the time an money invested. Over the years, I've bought three different keypad locks for various kinds of doors, so I had a pretty good idea of what I DIDN'T want for this backyard gate lock: numbers that were difficult to read due to font size or lack of color contrast, a knob that was uncomfortably small to manage, and battery dependance. This lock is perfect for it's function on all fronts.PROS:1. DURABLE/HIGH QUALITY: Marine grade, so I don't worry about it holding up over time in outside conditions, particularly after reading previous reviews. Also no worrying about replacing a battery as it's a mechanical lock.2. HANDLE vs. KNOB: The handle (which can be installed to the left or right as you prefer) is ample and so easy to manage I can unlock and open the gate with just a pinkie finger for both the key pad and the handle. This is a big help if my hands are full, and most other digital door locks require forefinger plus opposable thumb at a minimum, often in an awkwardly tight configuration.3. READABILITY IN WHITE/BLACK: High color contrast on some options for easy readability. I chose black characters on a white background which is the most readable I've found on any similar product as most offer only metallic bodies.POTENTIAL CONS (for some):1. NO ILLUMINATION: Because it's mechanical rather than battery operated, the keypad obviously doesn't illuminate. For my gate, this wasn't a priority, and I can see the characters at night well enough.2. SOME COLOR OPTIONS HARD TO READ UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS: Red is notorious for being a tricky color for readability, and I would not have been happy with the red/black combo unless it was for an interior installation which was well lit at all times. Also many of the other color combos (i.e. bronze/black) are too low in contrast for many people to easily see, and not just in the dark of night. If the sun hits the lock while you're trying to read the numbers, black letters on a stainless steel body an invitation to flash blindness and very frustrating. The color options are nice to have, but I would think carefully about how and under what lighting conditions you'll use the lock.3. PRICE: This was less of an issue for me as having the right lock for a specific utility was worth the price. Obviously you can find something with similar, if less convenient, function for far less, so you may want to look around if this is the first keypad lock you're seeing.OVERALL: I recommend thinking through your lock's specific location, function, lighting conditions, etc. to see if this is the best lock for you. I LOVE it and would happily replace at least two of my other keyless locks with this well-designed, quality product.
