Lisle 59400 Pinion Bearing Race Driver Set

WOW, this is where having the right tool for the job makes all the difference. Not only is it worth it cost (2-3 times as much as the most common metric sets) But it is also absolutely necessary for the GM 8.5”. The adapters were a perfect fit for both pinion bearings. I first tried the air hammer and didn’t have the best results, it only took a few whacks with a 4lb sledge though. My $65 metric set was out of the question immediately trying to use them, I stopped and found this set. Glad it was available. Said there’s only 1 left in stock 08/28/24. The extended handles are very durable, not aluminum. The threaded parts were just a little tight fitting, but a little antisieze got them together nicely. The case came open on one side. I had suspicions of it being used, but it was not. Once it’s used the markings of used are very apparent.

I work in a dealership environment - It is typical for me to replace bearings and bearing races often. I needed a tool that would correctly install races on Ford products and this tool set does the trick. I am really happy about the included Two lengths of install shafts as well as the adapter that allows me to use the race cups with my Air Hammer which is a nice feature. The Discs are sized correctly, I've never had a problem with them hanging up on hub housings etc. I have had no problem slamming the new races home Straight and firmly seated. It's a really nice set, great price, and comes in a nice case to keep them all together. I highly recommend using these for race installation. I have also used these to install Dust seals on the front axles of newer Ford trucks.

I wasted alot of time trying to drive pinion races in by hand/hammer, they would always end up going in cocked and not straight. I tried freezing the races first and heating up the axle housing but that would not work either. This tool drives them straight in seconds using a cheap IR air hammer and the included air hammer adapter. I do recommend placing bearing grease between the driver cup and the bearing just to help protect the bearing surface from the pounding of the tool.

Tool kit has a very wide selection of drivers. Quality is good and the deeper handle for driving differential inner races is great! I used this to drive new bearing races in my Ford 8.8.

I ordered a $30 set of race drivers before this one and that cheaper set did not have the correct size for the 8.6" chevy small pinion bearing. This more expensive set has the right sizes as well as a larger handle to hammer and hold the driver in place. I totally recommend getting this set over a cheaper set for a ring and pinion replacement because you're more likely to have the right size and the handle is going to help get the races in straight and more easily. If you are doing a 8.6" chevy 10 bolt rear end get this set instead of the cheaper ones, the smaller race is 2-11/16 so the ones with 65 and 74mm drivers and nothing in between will not fit in the unit conversion is 68.2625mm. I tried it with the cheaper set and I didn't think I could get the race in without it going in a little crooked. I decided to get this set to make things easier and reduce the risk of a bad install. On a side note I ordered an amazon warehouse reduced price set that was listed as being in very good condition. However the stud on the handle was chipped and needed to be re threaded and there was significant scarring on two of the drivers. it turned out to be in poor condition because it required a repair before it could be used. The damage was likely due to dropping the handle directly on the stud and the scarring was because the bolt was tightened to the point of digging into the metal. so be advised that the people putting down the condition may not fully test or understand the important parts of a tool like this when listing it on amazon warehouse. I think you can return it if the condition does not match up, but if you're on a time crunch that could be bad to wait for a replacement.

I'm an automotive technitian, former Chrysler tech and now in the aftermarket world. Recently purchased this item due to the lack of special tools in the aftermarket world and having to work on all makes. This product made pressing in pinion races easy and fast, I've watched people use punches to tap them in and I've seen people not change the races out at all even when a bearing and race comes as a matched pair. Time is money in this line of work but that's never an excuse to not do it right.

Arrived on time. They didn’t have this tool to rebuild my differential on my Ford F150 4X4 Super Crew Lariat 5.4L 2005 at Autozone. A most tool to have to put in the large bearing race. Quiet hard job to do on the floor and not on the lift.

Overall very happy with the purchase. I really like the two piece driver for installing races in the deeper differential housings. My only complaint/draw back is I was hoping the air hammer driver would match up with my snap-on seal driver kit, but that kit has 1/2"'holes and the air hammer driver must be 5/8". Either way I will get my money's worth over time (automotive diesel technician).

Good kit. I would at a shop that rebuilds differentials. The air hammer adapter works great.
