Bringing the past to your ears
One of the most admirable qualities of Chumbawamba is that along with few other brits they tell it like it is. I class them amongst the real 'politicians' and 'class warriors'; As a real yorkshire lass, brought up as a miners daughter who lived amongst the miners in the strike i have an innate anger against authority. Therefore for me, for many years, they have been my heroes, they have understood. This album, more than any of the many albums they have made truly reflects modern working class issues and combines their incredibly clever sampling, writing, angry, demanding, experimenting, developing interest in the cross over world of folk music with dance. To be danced to at a fesival. Miss it and you miss what is going on in your own back yard.

Beyond anarchy...
Aah, Chumbawamba are back. Politically incorrect, frightfully offensive to the establishment and totally in yer face.I've always liked Chumbawamba. I don't always agree with everything that they say but at least they have the guts to say it. That said, I do agree with most of it and I do find them entertaining and stimulating. The point is that you don't have to agree with them 100% of the time, I'm sure they wouldn't expect you to. As long as the issues are kept alive that is probably enough. But whats this... the new album is slightly different. Not so in yer face after all. Well written songs delivered cleverly and tunefully, but a little more reflectively and subtely than usual. The vocals are superb, the tunes beautifully crafted from the lilting pop melody of 'Salt Fare, North Sea' to the disjointed reggae fuelled ditty 'Song For Len Shackleton', this is the Chumbas at their very best. The messages are as important as ever and are still there but, could it be that 'Home With Me' is about as close to a love song as Chumbawamba have been for a while.Lets hope this wins them the new fans they richly deserve. It is a VERY VERY good lp this one. Oh, and relax, your mother still won't like them .....

Nowt As Queer As Chumba Folk
How do Chumbawamba manage to make every album totally different, and yet still be absolutey and unmistakably them! The 10th studio album from the british anarchist collective is a collection of sampled melodic folk music mixed with dance beats. Gone are the shouty, preachy lyrics that have existed in previous work, but the all out hamonising exhilirateing choruses that their also famous for, still crop up now and again, esspesially in 'Dont Try This At Home', which was agreed to be America's 1st single. Whether or not that release is still going to go ahead is debatable, but here in the UK, the 1st single 'Salt Fare, North Sea' will be out on July 29th, and could become a club hit. Obviously still overtly political, 'Readymades' confronts the class divide, knocking royalty off the throne and the police who shot an innocent man dead. There isnt really a bad song out of the albums 13 tracks, although some are noticably stronger than others. Chumbawamba have deffinatly re-invented themselves again with 'Readymades'. The old Chumba trademark of the quotes and TV and film recorded samples that are usually sprinkled all over the record to tie the whole thing together dont appear on 'Readymades', and almost all main male vocals this time around are done by Boff, and not Danbert or Dunstan. Its an all together more grown up album for Chumbawama, but with a pretty impresive result.

There's so much more to Chumbawamba than shouting
Many people will tend to associate Chumbawamba with their biggest chanting hits- Tubthumping, Your Ugly Houses. There's no chanting here. What you get is proof that Chumbawamba, as well as being very literate and passionate about their politics, are great songwriters. The blending of samples of traditional folk songs with new melodies is really strong throughout, and certain tracks are really very moving. Quality pop with meaning- fantastic.
