This book is invaluable. It is written in a very conversational tone -- so much so that I hope the author does an audiobook or a companion podcast at some point.The author structured the book in a manner where takeaways are always highlighted, which makes it very easy to thumb through in order to reread portions of the book that become newly relevant to the experience of running for office. That is a very nice touch.The author clearly has tremendous expertise on the topic, yet he remains cognizant throughout that his audience is a novice without being patronizing. That's a difficult tightrope to walk & an achievement worth commending.If you are running for office for the first time, this book should be a must read. I will be buying a beer for the guy who recommended it to me. I'm more confident in myself for having consumed his work.

Dan Theno skips all of the fluff and theories of politics and gets down to the basics; knocking on doors, formulating attention-getting ads, attending events and raising money. Practical. Practical. Practical. "Winning Local Elections" is the very best resource for any potential or current candidate, and also will provide great insights to experienced incumbents. As a 3 term local office holder who is experienced in campaigning, my own eyes were opened to the many avenues and strategies that I was not taking advantage of. Good luck in your race!

Winning Local Elections is the perfect blueprint for building a successful campaign organization. Each of the twelve easy to read chapters provide the fundamental and essential guidelines required to execute a winning campaign strategy.Practical in its design, the information and examples shared in Chapter 3 Budget & Finance, “Campaign Budget” were extremely beneficial in determining what is needed to fund a successful campaign. Additionally, the candidate is introduced to the importance of understanding jurisdictional election laws and the proper handling of campaign contributions. Equally important, the potential pitfalls associated with mishandling campaign funds is priceless.If your looking to run for public office, this is a must read in my humble opinion.

I've worked with political candidates for nearly 2 decades, and Dan's book is one of the best written guides to running for local office. He lays out the steps in very easy to follow chapters, and lays out a plan not only for what to do, but how to do it and how much money you'll need to do it. I highly recommend this book for anyone considering running for public office, and anyone who is holding office for reminders on how to improve your next campaign.

Campaigning is an ever-changing game and it helps that someone has spelled out an outline like the one this book provides. I've managed multiple campaigns in Georgia at the local and congressional level, losing only one. Having read (and enjoyed) this book I plan to use it as a reference - a checklist of sorts - with future campaigns. Mr. Theno has done a good job and I recommend "Winning Local Elections..." without equivocation.

As a first time candidate for office (school board), Mr. Theno's book was like my campaign bible! The topics were always relevant and the information was easy to digest. Reading this book made it feel like Dan was a member of my committee! Will definitely read again during my next run! Recommended for anyone who is running for local office!

This book did a fantastic job laying out the foundation on how to approach the very intimidating prospect of running for an elective post. While it was an easy and understandable read, the author delivers a comprehensive approach to developing and running a campaign. Great stuff.
