CITY & THE CITY Paperback – 27 April 2010

It is a good read for science fiction, crime thriller fans. The imagination doesn't disappoint and the pace doesn't slack. Enjoyed it!

For me, as far as imagination goes, China Mieville is unparalleled. In this book, it's the description of the cities that is simply brilliant. The unravelling of the murder mystery could have been better. More thrilling, perhaps. However, it's the geography and the setting of the plot that is the winner here.

No book in Poland would be allowed with such bad margins etc.Still the book is what it is. That's way 3 stars

J'ai du mal avec les thrillers mais sur celuic-ci, le scénario est incroyablement original ! Je n'ai pas autant accroché mais je donne 5 étoiles pour l'originalitéJe conseille, au moins pour découvrir l'idée de l'auteur des x villes encastrées.

Interesting take. Great concept and faultlessly handled. Without wanting to give to much away, I'd say while the police procedural bit was good, the setting made this something special. Believable take on a unique idea.

This is not science fiction or even fantasy; it is a murder mystery with a setting that, like all of the Mieville i have read to date, is so perfectly integrated with the prose that it borders on being tactile. It is an excellent story set in a world that the reader has to give some dedication to. My only complaint would be the companion pieces thrown in by the editors (book club questions and an interview with the author). I know. I know. I do not have to read them but, I am compelled to read them and i always, without exception, wish i had not. The interview does provide some interesting opinions about literature in general from Mieville and others may enjoy it.
