I spent 15 years in the treecare/landscape industry, used plenty of nursery spades. I bought this one for personal use, to own a much loved tool of the industry.First this spade is sharpened on the wrong side.It's heavy but that's pretty common , the weight is part of how the tool works.Don't know about the steel quality yet, it looks like stamped plate , but I hope it's heat treated enough to get and hold an edge.The handle is great, just what I expect,The painted coating is junk, I will wire wheel that off and wax it up. The wax will provide a smooth surface for less resistance and protect from rust. I don't fault them for painting it , but I don't want it either so..Price is good so far, if the steel is good. Time will tellI gave it 3 stars because it's not junk , and the price is on par with it's actual value, but it's not exicuted as well as some of the others, it seems like it's cheaper

My landscaping project involved moving a number of small trees and bushes to new locations, so I decided to buy this industrial grade spade. My plants are thanking me for the decision. Because of the sturdiness of its construction and the 15" blade length, I was able to move most of my plants with a large, well formed root ball. The plants hardly missed a beat after transplant. This is a heavy cutting plunging tool with a metal handle and grip. I was able to drive this spade at a angle around the plant, cutting roots when necessary, and then lift the plant/root ball. When I needed more force, I used my feet to stand on the handle to lift the plant. With one particularly deep rooted bush, I found myself jumping on the angled spade handle to dislodge the bush. I never felt the spade would break. The only negative note, one of the rubber pads came off after a few days of use. I strongly recommend this tool.

Two weeks and the stomp pads already fell off. Worse, there’s no easy way to jerry rig them back on. If I wanted trash I would have bought disposable low cost stuff and then replaced with the savings. This is too expensive to be trash level equipment. So save your money.

The other reviews were so positive, I thought I'd be edging my beds like crazy once I got this tool. But I found it really hard to sink it into the ground and it's so heavy that moving it around is a pain. I knew it was heavy when I bought it, but I thought the weight would help it cut into the earth. That's not really how it went, though. I ended up using a half-moon edger instead.

By far, the best tool for edging lawns. Somewhat heavy with ability to dig down into tough, hard clay soil for creating the proper depth and angle for professional looking, edged lawns. Attempting to utilize vinyl, various other materials into edged lawns simply creates an additional work load that really is not required. As an example, review several YouTube videos by professionals, not weekend hobby people and you will see first hand why this tool is the "Number I" edging tool utilized by professionals. This tool has a strong, metal handle and straight, flat blade that will that provide years of trouble free use.

Been working in landscape for 30+ years & how I got through it without this tool is beyond me. Aptly named "industrial", it certainly lives up to its name. Tough, top quality materials coupled with a design inspired by an individual who has actually done the job places this tool into the category of "ideal". Well built as it is, I regret to say that it probably will outlast me!

Bought this steel workhorse as used very good thru Amazon Warehouse and saved about $20. This sharp spade is super high quality and works great in edging with in combination with my Black and Decker Edger/Trencher cutting lines and curves around the yard.

I bought this shovel for its capacity to create beautifully crisp-edged planting beds in the landscape. Once you get the technique down, you‘ll be blasting through mulch season like a pro.
