1,000 Artist Journal Pages: Personal Pages and Inspirations (1000 Series)

How does a reviewer "Rate" or "Review" another artists' ART?This was a difficult task for me, because as my 1st sentence stated, it's quite difficult to rate an Artists' personal Art.Basically, it's like trying to evaluate a person's inner soul!This book is so well photographed & so detailed and colorful! Dawn DeVries Sokol has done a beautiful job at displaying all the entries that she received while organizing this book of 1000 Journal entries.The other amazing thing is that the entries that Dawn received were from all over the World! Therefore, it is so interesting to see how a journal writer is different from all others, and yet also the same, in that "we" (as a community of human beings) express ourselves in common ways as people! This book expresses this point very well---the soul of a person.Dawn stated in her Preface that she chose not to categorize each Chapter by theme. But rather, Dawn chose to show the Journal entries as a continuum. In this way, Dawn has displayed the worldwide entries in a spiral fashion, rather than in a linear fashion...thus, each entry spiraled from one to the other.Some Journal entries are sometimes "dark", sometimes sad, and sometimes happy. Such is life.All are introspective.When I read this book, I first of all went through each entry to look at the colors and artistic points. Then, the second time I went through this book, I looked at each Journal entry more specifically (often with a magnifying glass) in order to absorb the pages more thoroughly.All in all, this was a very insightful experience, not only into the souls of the Artists and writers, but also into my own soul.

This is the greatest book. The entire book is photos of art journalists pages with corresponding numbers that lead to a Artist in the back of the book with thier emails or websites. The Forward ask the question Why Journal? and gives many different answerrs and views which I found interesting. There are also 2 pages of journal prompts for you to get started in Art Journaling, this was helpful to me since I'm a beginner. If that weren't enough, there are 2 pages of Resources in the back that list places to buy supplies, different magazines and artzines, books and online inspiration.This is not a book you will buy and look at just once if you are an art journaler. I've looked through this book many different times. So many of the pages just "speak" to me in so many different ways. You won't be sorry you purchased this book. It is unique and unlike any other book I've purchased so far and I have quite a few now.I think Dawn did a fabulous job with it and all the artist's who contributed their pages do wonderful work. I hope she publishes another book in the future. I'm a fan.

I've been wanting to get into making an art journal, and I love this version of "scrapbooking" that intermixes art with verbal expression, so this book really provides a variety of ideas for creating a personal masterpiece. Many are very intricate, but I'm good at seeing ways to blend concepts. There are no "how-to" segments in this book, so if you're looking for the "how" of creating pages for your art journal or aren't able to see how the artists created their pages, you might want to look into taking a class or finding a DIY book on the subject.

I have to admit, I wasn't all that excited at first about the release of 1000 Artist Journal Pages. Somewhere in my mind, I had decided it's kinda silly to write a book, showcasing these pages, when people could just simply look online -at no cost, for inspiration.I'm now, totally eating those words -- err thought.(Can you even eat a thought? Much less words? Hmmm....)Sidenote for those who know me well: SEE- I really CAN admit when I'm wrong.All silliness aside, it was yet another lesson for me in passing judgement on something before fully experiencing it. Had I not been in the book, I probably wouldn't have bought it -- and I truly would have been missing out. I say this not to upset anyone, but beacuse I'm sure others have thought it too.I now know that there really is something to be said for having those amazing journal entries all wrapped up in the handy form of a book. Unlike my computer, I can curl up in my favorite chair and get lost in the diversity and wide range of artistic skills & styles found between the pretty covers.I was exposed to artists I may have never otherwise never heard of; styles I may never have otherwise seen; and ideas i may not have had have been rushing through my mind as a result. The first day I picked it up - I was inside my studio within an hour for the first time in weeks. It has become my go-to resource for a quick flash of creative caffeine. My love and admiration of this book, really shocked me; as did the effect it has had on me.I actually, surpringisly, kinda like that there's not alot of text. Really, that is part of it's charm - the accessibility of it, and how even if I only have seconds to spare, I can get something out of it. That - my friends - is priceless.So Thank You Dawn, for asking me to be a part of this fabulous collaboration ( you'll find 6 of my pages in the book on pages 97 and 98 ) and reminding me the value of showcasing art in this form!I sent a copy of this to my parents, and they in turned ahowed my uncle -- who used to sketch quite a bit; but hasn't in years. After looking through this book &  Mixed-Media Self-Portraits: Inspiration & Techniques  He began creating again! Inspiration really is a powerful tool isn't it?

Esperaba quizás algo más de contenido, con explicaciones de cada uno de los diarios ilustrados, pero a pesar de no llevar nada de texto, es un libro interesante. Profusamente ilustrado, como reza el título, a todo color, e inspirador.

Pour tous les amateurs de "art books"(entre le journal et le carnet de croquis pour les artistes sachant que c'est très riche de détails, coloré) et pou ceux qui veulent s'en inspirer pour leur bullet journal, c'est une source d'inspiration inépuisable. Cela peut aussi servir de modèle aux artistes débutant.

One of my favorite art books. More than anything, it always gives me a creative lift. It's not a how-to book, as much as it's a want-to book I want to pull out my crayons whenever I peruse this book. There's so many styles of creativity, but the emphasis is clearly on the expressiveness of individuals, not the techniques per se. It's a bit like people watching, but with art. It makes a wonderful gift.

There is something so satisfying about looking at other artists sketchbook journals, it provides such a great insight into other people's minds, their motivation, deepest fears, thoughts, hopes and inspirations. If you are stuck for ideas on how to start a sketchbook then this book is amazing. I cannot rate it enough. It is reassuring in its content, and so packed full of information for the senses I love reading this in bed and going to sleep dreaming up my next artistic ventures. An inspirational read, I am buying this again for someone as a Christmas present I was so impressed.

Ich muss im Voraus sagen, dass dies mein einziges Buch über "Art-Journals" ist.Ich habe aber vor dem Kauf viel im Internet gestöbert und mir einen Überblick verschafft. Meine Wahl fiel dann auf dieses Buch und ich war vom ersten Durchblättern her begeistert! So viele unglaubliche Ideen...das Auge hängt zwangsläufig an manchen Seiten "fest".Man kann wirklich lange Zeit damit verbingen ohne das man "übersättigt" ist, weil es so eine Vielfalt gibt - sofern man sich für Kunst interessiert (was ich mal bei Interesse für dieses Thema voraus setze).Zum Inhalt... Ich finde das Buch auf dem Cover gibt schon einen sehr guten ersten Eindruck. Man sieht viele Collagen in den unterschiedlichsten Variationen, sogar Seitenweise kleine Cartoons (Lustige und Düstere), Eindrücke und Erinnerungen werden festgehalten, Wünsche aufgeschrieben, Selbstdarstellungen werden inszeniert.ICH - liebe dieses Buch!
