April 14, 1865. As four year of Civil War draw to a close, our country again faces unforgettable tragedy: the assassination of the President. Starring Lance Henriksen as the Great Emancipator and Rob Morrow as assassin John Wilkes Booth, this riveting recreation of The Day Lincoln Was Shot (from Jim Bishop's landmark book) is a thrilling and detailed chronicle of the plot, murder and manhunt that changed America forever. To avenge what he called the Confederacy's "noble cause," Booth conspires with his motley followers, rages and boasts, and aspires to a place in history as a Great Man. The weary Lincoln, longing for a just peace, meets with his Cabinet, steals precious time with his family and dreams - literally - of the death of a President. Minute by minute, killer and victim edge closer to the burst of gunfire at Ford's Theatre that stopped Lincoln's heart - and shattered the country's soul.

X-FILES COMPOSER MARK SNOWS SERIOUS SIDE FOR A SLINGSHOT OF EMOTION,
Mark Snows sensational construction of magnificent tones & mesmerising textures adds reality to this daunting true historical tragedy. Lance Henrickson (from the cult horror classic Mansion Of The Doomed with Gloria Grahame & Millennium Series) elevates & justifies the presentation of Lincoln during his most famous era until his shocking murder. A sad ending for each family member unfolds after his assassination leaving the viewer stunned at the end results of such a pointless crime. A true gem of a movie for serious drama & Mark Snow fans.

The Day Lincoln Was Shot DVD-A Worthy Effort
The Day Lincoln Was Shot is a book by Jim Bishop that I've always loved. In fact, I not only have the book itself in hardback, but I also have it in audiobook form. I probably listen to it once a year or so and am always delighted with it. Now the DVD of the book is available! I don't know why I missed the original broadcast of the film on TNT back in 1998. Admittedly, I don't watch much TV, but I would have made an exception for this movie! So in 2011, I purchased the DVD of the film that was released in 1998-oh well-better late than never.I wasn't disappointed. This movie is very well done. It stars Lance Henriksen as Lincoln and Rob Morrow as Booth. Both do outstanding jobs in their roles. Henriksen obviously studied Lincoln. He moves and acts like I imagine Lincoln would move and act. He looks very much like Lincoln, as well. Only his voice is off. Henrikson's voice is much deeper than the accounts of Lincoln's high pitched Kentucky twang was said to be. Henriksen nails Lincoln's humor, patience, and quiet sturdiness. As for Morrow as Booth-he is also outstanding. I see Booth when I see Morrow playing Booth. He captures the various facets of the assassin-the gentleman, the playboy, the man absolutely devoted to the cause as he sees it. The other cast members are done fairly well, but Henriksen and Morrow make the movie. The film is 94 minutes. The color is beautiful. The period sets are great. The music is dramatic and really adds to the build-up of the Ford's theater shooting. Throughout the movie, one really gets the feel of 1865 Washington. The costumes are dead on-including the soldiers. The soldiers don't look like re-enactors (like I think they do in Gettysburg). Sure, there are some problems with the historical record-but for me- they're minor and not worth mentioning here. I recommend this film to Lincoln buffs as well as to those who may not be familiar with the history. Have fun watching!

Better than "The Conspirator"
After seeing "The Conspirator" in theaters, I realized how much I loved this movie. Rather than having an agenda, it portrays events in an accurate and believable way that almost made me forget I was watching a film. I was pleased that it included more than the assassination, but also Lincoln's visit to Richmond, the dream of his death, and the contents of his pocket when he was shot. Though it took Booth hours to die after he was shot (if I'm not mistaken) the time constraints of a made-for-tv film made it necessary to show his death sooner. Instead of villanizing Edwin Stanton like Rob Redford's did, it captured the urgency and anger resulting from the actions of such an unprecedented event in our nation's history. Rather than hating North or South, I felt an appropriate sadness for the loss of Lincoln and the peace he might have brought to our wounded and broken country at the time. I recommend this to all Civil War and American History buffs. If I were a school-teacher, I would show this in my American History class.

Excellent accuracy for this tragic time in history
I have read enough books on the Lincoln Assassination to know that this movie is very close to the actual events that took place during the end of the Civil War. Rob Morrow as Booth and Lance Henriksen as Lincoln are so believabe in their parts, you forget that you're watching a movie. The rest of the cast does a fine job at bringing these sad events together. Also, the buildings, costumes and scenery used, help to bring you back in time and give you a good idea how and where the actual events took place. This is a movie that moves along at a fine pace and holds your attention throughout. So glad they finally released it on DVD.

Great movie that I enjoyed years ago glad it was available
Great movie about America's greatest president. My only criticism is the love scene between John Wilkes Booth and Lucy Hale was unnecessary. The viewer knows that Booth was a womanizer without that scene. With the scene it makes it less appropriate for younger viewers

Loved this TNT original movie produced in 1998 on DVD
Loved this TNT original movie produced in 1998 on DVD. Bittersweet though because I originally saw the movie on TNT the week my beloved mother passed. Being a serious Lincoln collector, it found a prominent place amongst my Lincoln DVD library / collection. Strong acting redoing history of the plot to kidnap than kill the president from the entire cast. Thanks!

Raining in the memories.
I first saw this when it aired on TV back in '98. I was only a first grader, and we learned all about Lincoln during the Civil War that year. The movie came at just the right time. Loved it then, and I love now. It's been over 20 years since I last saw it.

I usually enjoy them all
There are some other movies out on the assassination of Lincoln. I usually enjoy them all. I would put this would right up there with the best. Enjoyed it greatly. The actors for Lincoln and Booth do a really good job.
