Quilt Pattern Book Bundle: Pillow Talk and Triangles on a Roll

Review is for Pillow Talk - Great Designs BUT not Clear Directions.
I put this book on my Christmas list as I really loved the designs of the pillows shown in the pictures. The pillows were created using the fabric, Andover's Laundry Basket Favorites, which offers a rich gradient of colors with a linen texture. I was so excited to get the book from my daughter so I could make 4 of the Rainbow Drops pillows for my two newly recovered sofas. The fabric list is provided, but the directions are lacking, The directions state, "Position the appliqué pieces on the Fabric A according to the placement guide." The only placement guide provided is a picture of the pillow top with the colors of each orange peel shown, but NOT labeled. The pillow top placement picture has two letters; A for the background fabric and B on one of the orange peels indicating these are orange peels from the 24 colors listed on the previous page. Honestly, the attraction of this pillow IS the careful placement of the colors. Colors are always difficult to tell in pictures. In the box, Edyta's Tips it states, "Color placement is everything for this pillow." So with 24 different colors in this pillow, why is every orange peel NOT labeled with the appropriate color from the chart on the previous page? There are some easier pillows in this book with fewer colors that do provide placement directions (Kaleidoscope Pillow, p. 32). The page listing the Yardage & Cutting tells the sewer how many orange peel units to cut from each 10" square. Then under Piecing Instructions there is a statement, "You will not use all orange peels." Why would the instructions tell you to cut orange peels you will not use? That is a waste of precious fabric. Although not hugely important, the yardage requirements does not include the color used to bind the pillow. Yardage requirements for the binding are at the beginning of the book on p. 9. The reader would only know this if the reader had read pillow construction options at the beginning of the book. The directions should include, "For binding information, refer to p. 9." Fortunately I am an experienced sewer. However, this book would not be for a beginning sewer or quilter. For the price of this book I expected more details with the eye candy.
