Fantastic book for newly diagnosed autistic adults!
I was diagnosed as an autistic adult... like 3 days ago. Google searching to learn anything I could about the diagnosis... I stumbled across this book.Fantastic. It was awesome to both read accounts and learn strategies. I felt validated that I also deal with these issues... and really really appreciated the authors perspective and offerings for “on the ground” tacticsSorely and desperately needed. Thank you, author, for helping me turn the corner with a touch more confidence and a few more tools to make the day in the NT world a little bit easier and less uncomfortable.

Good read
Written from an insider’s point of view, you may not relate to everything 100% but you will learn something from this book. Just nice to know you’re not alone. I found a bit of comfort and strength from this book.

Very informative and helpful!
My 32 year old son was diagnosed with autism in 2018. I found this book while searching for information to help us both understand and navigate his new diagnosis. If only I had had this information years ago I could have understood him better. It was like reading his life story that he hasn’t been able to communicate to me. I know that it will help us understand and react to his seemingly unreasonable actions and expectations in the future, as it is reality in his Aspergers world. Thank you for writing this book!!!!

Good perspectives
The author was diagnosed as an adult, so he has had to endure much misunderstanding, even being bullied. He relates his experiences with honesty and courage. I hope he will continue to write.

It was a good illustration of the viewpoint of one person on the highly functional end of the autistic spectrum. A lot of the author's opinions were presented without justification as established scientific conclusions.

You are not alone if this is your diagnosis.
I bought this book to understand my son. It explained so many things I’ve experienced over the years. It was helpful if this is your reality.

Well written book with some surprises
I just finished reading this book. Overall, this book was well written. I feel it was one of the best books I have read, so far, for very high functioning adults on the autism spectrum. I was hoping to find a book that could be shared with relatives or friends to help them understand adults with high functioning autism. Most of the chapters are VERY GOOD for that purpose. However, once I got to the pages dealing with sex I knew that I would not be lending this book out for others to understand me. I think if my relatives read this chapter they may come away with many biases. There were things in the sex section of the book that were said about people with AS that were quite alarming, in my opinion. People reading and learning about Aspergers for the first time may get the idea that all people with aspergers deal with sexuality/sex in the manner described in the book. I feel the author should have been more careful in this section with his wording. He should have emphasized, several times, throughout this chapter that not all people with aspergers deal with sexuality in the manner described. Overall, there were MANY great parts to this book. It described the Asperger life well and I can relate to most of it. However, some people may wish for more citations based on research to back up the things he writes. I actually didn't see even one citation. However, this was mostly written from his personal lived experience, which also holds weight for me.

Highly highly recommended
Brilliant book. Really helpful and easy to read. Not full of jargon! I am a newly diagnosed adult and this has given me some great practical ideas that have made a difference to my life within days of reading it. I intend to reread it to pick up other ideas i missed. In addition this is finally a book i will ask my family to read to help them understand as it is so well written in laymans language. What's more I'm starting a local support group for high functioning adults and i will be recommending it to them and i expect the chapters will give us topics to explore in sessions. I will also be asking the assessment team to add it to their reading list they give to the newly diagnosed.

Very good introduction
The most helpful information so far in my search to understand my adult son. In the absence of any accurate official diagnosis l am sure l am not alone in feeling desperate at times. This sincere and dispassionate account of the difficulties and pain that people with undiagnosed Aspergers face made me cry, it was all very familiar but never recognised by anyone we went to for help. This book should be required reading for every educational psychologist and every teacher.

Should come with a trigger warning.
As a newly diagnosed adult, struggling to accept this new reality, I found nothing but despair in the last few chapters. If you're looking for reassurance, give this a really wide berth. It left me feeling more worthless than I already did.

Describes me perfectly
I’m newly diagnosed. I’m in my mid-40s. When you’re diagnosed you are tested under certain criteria - the triad of impairments. There is so much more to being gifted with ASD than that! This book gave me so much narrative to my history and things to think about in the future I’m almost dizzy.I ended up choosing this book as Aspies had shot down many of the others. This wasn’t tainted like that. Nor should it be.

I would recommend this book as your first port of call if you're an adult who has just been diagnosed with ASD.
I have recently been diagnosed with ASD. This was a good book to start off with to find out more about the condition and I found it kept thing nice and simple and very easy to relate to. It did give me a lot to think about. Especially the chapters on relationships and parenting. I also thought the analogies of what it is like to be autistic early on in the book very good as well. It does exactly what the title says and I would recommend this book as your first port of call if you're an adult who has just been diagnosed with ASD.
