Nepal (inglés) (LONELY PLANET) Paperback – July 1, 2012

I've always had a strong desire to pedal the Friendship Highway, but realize that as I get older and my body doesn't work as well as previously, that urge has had to be somewhat tempered. The reality of this was actually fortuitous when the opportunity arose for me to escort my 83-year mother on an outstanding overseas odyssey--pedaling was NOT to be our main mode of transportation! Anyway, Nepal is a long-fabled destination, and now is the time. Whenever I'm traveling to a new location on Earth, I like to go with a good idea of what to expect and the best source of that information are the Lonely Planet travel guides. These extremely concise books of knowledge are relevant and worth every amount I pay for them, even used. I'm quite appreciative that the information covers all levels of travelers. from youths who can take bare-bones/little $ to us older folks who enjoy a nooner(mil spec) and willing to pay $$. I became addicted to these worthwhile tomes after buying an out-of-date LP-China in 2004 in a used book store, while traveling an Eurasia odyssey with my then-young children, anticipating a need. And sure enough, when we were in Beijing a fortnight later, it was still a value source!

I read this travel guide on my 40-hour journey from California to Kathmandu. Not only did it make me feel prepared to immerse myself in the unique culture of Nepal, but it was incredibly entertaining to read. I stayed at two of the budget hotels listed for Thamel and checked out several of the suggested restaurants in Pokhara. I definitely suggest giving this a read if you’re headed to Nepal.

Per usual, Lonely Planet did an excellent job with this travel guide on Nepal. I wanted a good background on the history, culture and sites in Nepal prior to booking my trip and traveling, and found this just the ticket. There are not very many travel guides on Nepal and fewer good ones. This is one of the very good ones. It is well organized by topic and area of the country so you can easily go to a specific area if that is your style. The culture and history section is very good and all the attractions are covered. Plus there is a detailed guide of all the major treks and everything you will need to know to plan you visit, or to just read if you are interested in Nepal.

I found this Lonely Planet book very useful while I was in Nepal. It provided incite into the culture and important sites to see. It provided good reviews on companies to go through and activities to do while there. I have used Lonely Planet for every trip I've gone on to other countries and they have never let me down. I will continue to purchase their books as I go on more adventures.

Informative, easy to use, up to date and straight forward. Stan Armington was a better author in the older editions.

I just finished reading this prior to traveling to Nepal. I always learn a lot from the Lonely Planet books and this did not disappoint me. I look forward to my trip and have used this book to refer me to other books to read about Nepal.

I love Lonely Planet Guides and this one lives up to their reputation for loads of information to help inform one of the who/what/where/how to travel Nepal. Just wish I had more time to do it all.
